I Left You

You cry out my name across miles of telephone wire
You tell me you love me and will never forget
I stare at the wall and let the tears fall free
Only time can tell, 'cause now you can't see
But I know the day will come when you cry again
Only next time you'll cry out and curse my name
Your heart will grow to despise me, I left you so alone
Your mind will die to forget me, to throw the damn phone
I left for my reasons though not so true to you
I left 'cause I knew not what I needed to do
I left on my own terms and left you standing there
I never looked back and pushed aside my tears

My heart it does ache, you may not see it pain
But I had left a dream of on my own, lived with you in vain
I cry out your name across miles of telephone wire
I pray you pick up the phone and let me explain
I stare at the wall and let the tears fall so free
Only time will tell if I left because of me
But I know the day will come when I cry again
Only next time I'll cry out and smile your sweet name
My heart will grow to love you, you gave me so much
My mind will try to remember your soft loving touch
I left for my reasons though not so true to you
I left 'cause I knew not what I needed to do
I left on my own terms and left you standing there
I look back on you now and push aside my tears

Years may go by and days will seem long
But I carry you in my heart and know you've made me strong
I cry no more of what I left behind
I whisper your name and hang up the line.
