Ok, you should be to the Mt. Moon Pokécenter. You should have a Pidgey, a Rattata, a Caterpie(hopefully it's a Metapod by now), a Weedle(hopefully a Kakuna), a Nidoran(f), a Nidoran(m), a Jigglypuff, and whichever Pokémon you started with. It would also be nice if you had a Pikachu and a Spearow.
All your Pokémon should be leveled up to 12 (all!!) before you try to go into Mt. Moon, because there are a lot of dangers in there.
Also, in the Pokécenter, there's a guy who wants to sell you a Magikarp for 500 Pokébucks. Don't buy it, because you can catch one with the fishing rod later.
Ok, got everything? You're ready to go into Mt. Moon.
While in Mt. Moon, you'll be challenged by a LOT of trainers. Better bring some Potions! Most of the trainers are Hikers(rock Pokémon) or Jr. Trainers(all types). You'll really need to work hard if you started with Charmander. While in the cave, don't forget to grab a Paras, a Zubat, a Geodude, and a Clefairy(put it to sleep with Jigglypuff).
Once you get about halfway through Mt. Moon, you'll meet up with a couple members of Team Rocket. They'll tell you about their evil plan: dig up fossils and ressurect them to make powerful and rare Pokémon. Beat them (shouldn't be too hard) then continue on.
Your final test lies at the end of Mt. Moon. You'll bump into a Super Nerd who refuses to share his fossils. After fighting with him (and winning) you'll get to choose between the Helix fossil and the Dome fossil. Choose wisely. The Helix fossil becomes a Kabuto, and the Dome fossil becomes an Omanyte. Unless you are planning to trade with someone else who needs an Omanyte, get the Helix fossil. Kabuto is much stronger than Omanyte.
Whew! You're finally out of Mt. Moon! But don't get so joyful yet, you've still got to make it to Cerulean City without getting beaten up too badly by the minor trainers hanging around. (don't they have something better to do??)
Remember, once you cross the fence into Cerulean City, you'll be unable to leave. That's ok, you don't need to leave just yet.
Do all the usual stuff you do when entering a new town, heal your Pokémon, check out the surrounding buildings, buy a couple Pokéballs, you know. If you've got a Pikachu that's at least level 18, and some other non-rock non-fire Pokémon that are about that high too, you can try to challenge Misty and/or her Jr. Trainers. Or, you can head up north to Nugget Bridge.
Nugget Bridge is a small path north of Cerulean City. There are 5 trainers on the path, if you beat all them you will get a Nugget, worth 5000 Pokébucks. Be careful, though, after Trainer #5 there's a Team Rocket guy who asks you to join. Either way, whatever you answer, you'll end up fighting him. One word for you: WIN.
After you've gotten the Nugget, you can go to the small field west of Nugget Bridge. There's a bunch of common Pokémon, including Caterpies, Weedles, Metapods, Kakunas, and if you have the Blue version, Bellsprouts. If you have the Red version, look for an Oddish or two. Lastly, in both versions, very rare, are some Abras. These guys are almost impossible to catch, because the only move they know is Teleport, and that lets them escape from battle.
Some people recommend just throwing a Pokéball and hoping it stays inside, some people recommend waiting until you have a Great Ball or Ultra Ball and throwing one of those, but I've found that those methods just waste Pokéballs. My method seems to work best, for me. You may not think so. Anyway, the way I've found works best is to use a Pokémon that has the ability to put Abra to sleep. Then immediately after you go into battle with it, make it fall asleep. Get its life down as far as you can before it wakes up, then quick throw a Pokéball. It works every time. Catch an extra Abra to trade for a Mr. Mime later.
After you've gotten all that through with, you can go visit Bill, the Pokemaniac. Go north of Cerulean City, then head east. Fight with (or avoid, your choice) the trainers on the way.
When you near Bill's house, Gary will show up and fight with you. His original Pokémon is in its second stage, and he's got some other great Pokémon, including an Abra. Still, if you've trained your Pokémon well, it shouldn't be too hard to beat him.
Go into Bill's house and talk to the Pokémon. He'll tell you that he's not really a Pokémon, it's just an experiment that went wrong. If you help him get back to normal he'll give you a ticket for the S.S. Anne. Also, leave his cottage and then re-enter. Look at his computer and there will be pictures of Eevee, Flareon, Jolteon, and Vaporeon. On your way back to Cerulean City, you can jump the fence and get back a lot quicker.
Beat Misty if you haven't already done so, and go to the next page.
