Page 14: Pallet Town - Pewter City

Just a warning: I like to do everything thouroughly, and in a very concrete order. These following pages will not tell you how to beat the game quickly, they will tell you how to beat the game well.

When you start the game you are in your room. You can look around a bit, play with the SNES (can you say advertising?) or go to your computer. There's one Potion in your computer, you can withdraw it if you want.

Go downstairs, look around to your heart's content. Continue outside and walk around Pallet Town. When you're ready to continue on, walk up to the north of the town.

After that whole thing is over, you've fought Gary (and won, hopefully) blah blah blah, (See the previous page for more detailed info) you're ready to continue on to Viridian City.

Go up to the north of Pallet Town. Make sure you talk to everyone, especially the first guy. He'll give you a Potion.

If you want, you can fight with some wild Pokémon. You can't capture them yet, but you can level up your Pokémon to at least Level 7.

When you get to Viridian City you can heal your Pokémon at the Poké Center. Walk around a while to get aquainted with your surroundings. If you try to continue past Viridian City, this old man won't let you pass. Go into the Poké Mart when you're ready to travel on.

When you enter the store, the shopkeeper will give you Oak's Parcel. You're supposed to give it to Professor Oak. You can also buy Pokéballs at the Mart, but I don't recommend it until your second time here.

Go back to Pallet Town and give Professor Oak the package. Also, be sure to visit Gary's house and talk to his sister. She'll give you a Town Map.

Now, go back to Viridian City. By now your Pokémon should be at at least Level 7. Buy some Pokéballs at the Poké Mart, then backtrack a little and capture a Pidgey and a Rattata. Make sure they're each at least Level 5 (preferably Level 7, the same as your first Pokémon) before continuing.

Go a little to the west of Veridian City. In the small field you can capture both genders of Nidoran. If you've got time, grab a Spearow too. After you've caught them, go back to the PokéMart and buy a few more Pokéballs for Veridian Forest.

Now, heal all your Pokémon at the Center, then go up to where that old man was. He'll ask you if you're in a hurry. If you say no, he'll show you how to capture a Pokémon. If you already know how, just say Yes.

Keep going north until you get to Viridian Forest. While in Viridian Forest, make sure you get the Pokéball, Potion, and Antidote lying on the ground. Also, fight with all the minor trainers who challenge you.

Capture a Weedle and a Caterpie before leaving Viridian Forest. Don't try to capture Metapods and Kakunas, they're worthless. Also, you can try to capture a Pikachu, but they're hard to get and you can always catch another one at the Power Plant.

Leave Viridian Forest and make your way to Pewter City. You can look around if you want, but it's just a plain old town, nothing special. They do have a museum you can visit, though. It costs $50 to get in. You can go in , but there's really nothing there except for a fossil of an Aerodactyl (to look at, not get!!) and some people who will give you clues about Clefairy's orgin.

After all your Pokémon are at at least Level 12, you're ready to challenge Brock. If you started with Charmander, you'll have to raise him to Level 15 at least before trying to defeat him.

You'll have to fight with another trainer before you can reach Brock. He uses rock Pokémon too. If you had a hard time beating this trainer, you should go to the Pokécenter and then re-enter the gym.

Brock shouldn't be too hard to beat if you trained your Pokémon well. Squirtle's Bubble attack can take out Geodude and Onix in one stroke each. Bulbasaur's Vine Whip works too. Like I said before, the fire element is weak against rock, so you'll really have to pump up your Charmander if that's who you started with. Also, pump up your Pidgey and use it's sand attack to lower Brock's accuracy, if you started with Charmander.

After you beat Brock you'll get the Boulder Badge. More info on that on the Gym Leaders page. Then you can continue on to Mt. Moon.

On the way to Mt. Moon you'll fight with a few minor trainers. Not much, just some Lasses and Jr. Trainers. And if you're the type who likes to backtrack to the nearest Pokémon Center after almost each battle, (like me) I'd recommend not doing that on your way to Mt. Moon unless you're in really bad shape. There's a Pokécenter right by the cave entrance if you need it.

Make sure to go in the grassy field by the sign that says "Mt. Moon" or something like that. Catch a Jigglypuff while you're there. Also, if you haven't gotten a Spearow yet, now would be a good time.

After healing all your Pokémon (and pumping up your Jigglypuff, you'll need it's Sing) you're ready to go to Mt. Moon, and to the next page.
