Charmander is a fire type, Squirtle is water, and Bulbasaur is grass/poison. I like Squirtle because it can learn water and ice moves which is pretty handy. Once you chose your pokemon you have to fight your rival GARY or whatever the name you madeup. He will always chose the oppisite type of your pokemon so that he will have some power over you. If you were smart you could have gotton potion from your pc to use. A PC is a computer you use to store pokemon and items that you have to put a side for a while.

The battle is kinda long and obnoxious but sooner or later someone will win. After the fight you can go and get a town map from GARY's sister at his house. The townmap helps you find routes and cities in the pokemon world. Well once you are already you think you can just go out and catch a pidgey or rattata. Theres a little catch in catching a pokemon. You have to go to a Pokemon Mart and buy pokeballs to catch a pokemon. As you go further in to the game you will be able to get better balls like the greatball and ultraball. There are also items in the Mart that help revive your pokemon like potion antidotes and other things. There are also items that help get you out of situations such as a escape rope or a pokedoll.

The first city you encounter is Viridian City which has a local gym that is mysteriously closed... Enough about that lets talk about the Pokedex. When you go inside the mart you will find out that you cant buy until you bring Prof's parcel! (Dang!) So its time to go back to Pallet town and give it to him. In return he will give you a pokedex. A pokedex is a miniature computer that stores pokemon info for you. It records every pokemon you see and if you catch all 150 pokemon you basicly beat the whole game! Of course that would take a while and you'd have have to trade with your friends through the link cable. Unless if your that much of a cheater and have to resort to the Gameshark for gameboy to beat the game!
