SALT WATER POOLS
-
on the shore of Kriti
-
rocks weathered by sand and sea
-
break the waves as they come against the shore
-
here is one rock pocked with small pools
-
at the top, one alone,
filled with still, quiet water
-
undisturbed by the waves,
-
beneath it are others of similar form,
-
still, but not so safe
-
here two pools joined together,
-
so that their water
mixes and shares, two in form,
-
another pool ringed by rock in all save one
place
-
as each wave rolls in, its substance changes
-
mixed in with the larger world of the ocean,
-
not isolated or secure as the others,
it changes always, yet shares their forms
-
for a moment
-
I watched where sea and shore at play
-
sculpted a likeness of human souls
I wrote this poem while stationed at NSA Supply, FPO New York, in Crete
Greece. Amby Duncan-Carr was kind enough to look through some old Mensa
Bulletins to find it for me, since I had lost my copy. You can visit her

is a collection of poem by a young (high school) mensan and friends and
visitors to her website.
