The Quests

The following is a list of the quests in the game.  Be warned: if you don't want the story spoiled, don't read ahead in the main story quest section. Just look up the quest you need, and since the game is linear, you won't be reading anything you don't want to see.

Quests marked with a * are very easy for beginning parties, and can get you off to a good start.

Format:
Quest Name (where you get it)
Difficulty: a general guide to the difficulty of the task, taking you're level into account (some quests are easy when you get them, but are tough for a weak party)
Monsters: what you will find in the dungeon, and sometimes in overland regions
Where you go: self explanatory
Comments: general opinions on the quest, and hints on how to complete them

Secondary Quests
These are the quests that exist all around the game world, and do not advance the story or your characters. They're mainly good for building up gold and experience.

*Find the ArcoMage Player  (Harmondale)
Difficulty: easy
Monsters: Troglodytes, Oozes
Where you go: White Cliff Caves (SE Harmondale)
Comments: Go into the the caves and find the deck of ArcoMage cards. You can find them in the NW corner of the cave. These cards are necessary to play ArcoMage in taverns, which is part of another quest.

*Return the Signet Ring (Harmondale - tavern)
Difficulty: easy
Monsters: Bandits
Where you go: Bandit Caves (NE Erathia)
Comments: This is an extremely small cave, so you should have no trouble finding the ring. The bandits aren't too tough, just don't let them swarm you.

Find the Lantern of Light (Harmondale - temple)
Difficulty: medium
Monsters: Wights, Bats, Rats, Zombies, Ghouls, Skeletons, Gogs
Where you go: Dwarven Barrows (3 entrances in the Barrow Downs)
Comments: The cave is not that tough, if you can figure out how to navigate it. A hint: look on the maps on the walls and the levers beside them. If you start getting lost, though, you end up fighting alot of monsters. The Lantern is located in Barrow II.

Become ArcoMage Champion (Erathia)
Difficulty: easy, although some of the taverns are tough to reach
Monsters: none
Where you go: all 13 taverns in the game (one on every map except Land of the Giants)
Comments: You have to go to every tavern, including the one in hostile territory (Celeste/The Pit). The game is not that tough to win, so you shouldn't have much trouble. The prize, however, is well worth the effort to obtain it.

*Deliver Letter to Lord Markham (Erathia)
Difficulty: easy
Monsters: none
Where you go: Lord Markham's estate (Tatalia)
Comments: Another easy quest, just take the letter to Markham (in the town in Tatalia), and return to the man in Erathia with what Markham gives you.

Put the Statues on the Shrines (Tularean Forest)
Difficulty: hard
Monsters: Clerics of the Sun & Moon, Monks, Wights, Minotaurs, Warlocks, Hydras
Where you go: Temple of the Sun, Temple of the Moon (Evenmorn Island), The Maze (Nighon)
Comments: Even though you get this quest very early, you won't complete it for a long time. The three dungeons you have to go to are very hard, and you won't be tough enough to handle them for a while (you won't even reach Nighon for a while). The three statues go on the shrines in Bracada (Angel), Tatalia (Eagle), Avlee (Knight).

*Deliver Letter to Faerie King (Tularean Forest)
Difficulty: easy
Monsters: none
Where you go: Hall Under the Hill (Avlee)
Comments: A very easy quest, you should do it in conjunction with the Ranger promotion quest (they both take you to the same place). The king will give you the item in exchange for all of your food. If you need help getting in to see the king, see the Hunter promotion quest.

Recover the Paintings (Tatalia)
Difficulty: medium
Monsters: undead, Archers, Soldiers, Champions of the Sword
Where you go: Haunted House (Barrow Downs), Castle Gryphonheart (Erathia)
Comments: The Angel painting is on the wall in one of the bedrooms in the Haunted House. The other two can be found in Castle Gryphonheart, in restricted areas. In other words, to complete this quest you will turn Castle Gryphonheart hostile towards your party. This wears off after about a month, though.

*Clear out the Stone City Mines (Stone City in the Barrow Downs)
Difficulty: easy
Monsters: Troglodytes
Where you go: Stone City Mines, NW corner of Stone City
Comments: An easy quest, you just have to kill all the Troglodytes in the mines. The mines do contain a few other important items: the entrance to the Nighon Tunnels, and an Obelisk.

Find Haldar's Remains (Nighon)
Difficulty: hard
Monsters: Minotaurs, Warlocks, Hydras
Where you go: The Maze (Nighon)
Comments: It's a very long trek through the Maze to get to the remains, and the sheer volume of monsters there makes this dungeon tough. While your in there, try to find the statue for the Place the Statues quest, so you never have to go back.

Promotion Quests
These quests are not required, but the game will be much tougher if you don't. You cannot undertake the second promotion quests until you have chosen a path to follow, and then you can only do the quests on your path.

Knight ~ Cavalier (Erathia)
Difficulty: easy-medium
Monsters: Ghosts, Ghouls, Wights
Where you go: Haunted Mansion (Barrow Downs)
Comments: The monsters aren't that tough, but there are alot of them, making this quest a bit of a challenge early on. Also, the chests inside are very hard to disarm for a low level party, so you will take even more damage. Overall, though, its not too tough. Pick up the Angel painting while you're here for another quest.

Cavalier ~ Champion, good (Bracada)
Difficulty: hard
Monsters: vary, but powerful
Where you go: the Arena, which can be reached on Sunday from the Harmondale stables.
Comments: You have to win 5 arena battles at the Knight level, which is not easy unless your party is very powerful. This quest is also very time consuming: it takes 8 days each time you go to the arena (you can only fight once on each visit).

Cavalier ~ Black Knight, evil (Erathia)
Difficulty: easy, at this point
Monsters: Elven Warriors and Archers
Where you go: Castle Navan (Tualrean Forest)
Comments: By the time you get this quest, the elves guarding the castle should pose little threat to your party. Just raid the castles treasury (Eagle Eye makes it easier to find).

Thief ~ Rogue (Erathia Sewers)
Difficulty: easy (with Invisibility), easy-medium (without)
Monsters: Swordsmen, Champions of the Sword
Where you go: Lord Markham's Estate (Tatalia)
Comments: The vase is in the resricted area to the left. If you have Invisibility, this quest is easy: just walk in and grab the vase. Without it, you'll have to fight a few Champions of the Sword, which can be tough for a low level party.

Rogue ~ Spy, good (Erathia Sewers)
Difficulty: medium
Monsters: Earth Elementals, Ghosts, Liches, Necromancers
Where you go: Watchtower 6 (Deyja)
Comments: This quest can be tough to finish, depending when you do it. Most of the monsters here have strong ranged attacks, so can do a lot of damage to your party. The Necromancers are especially annoying to deal with. The dungeon is not big, though, so it's not to tough.

Rogue ~ Assasin, evil (Deyja)
Difficulty: easy (with Invisibility), medium-hard (without)
Monsters: Angles, Rocs, Sorcerers, Light Elementals
Where you go: Celeste
Comments: If you can avoid the hostile creatures here (with Invisibility or by dodging them), this quest is very easy. If not, it can be a tough fight to get to Lady Carmine (in front of Castle Lambent). Remember, if you need a quick escape, just make sure you have Fly or Feather Fall cast and jump through the holes in the ground.

Monk ~ Initiate (Harmondale)
Difficulty: medium
Monsters: Wights, Bats, Rats, Zombies, Ghouls, Skeletons, Gogs
Where you go: Dwarven Barows (3 entrances in Barrow Downs)
Comments: See Find the Lantern of Light secondary quest. The barrow you need is the one marked with an ankh.

Initiate ~ Master, good (Harmondale)
Difficulty: easy
Monsters: Clerics of the Moon, Spiders, Devils
Where you go: Temple of Baa (Avlee)
Comments: As long as you don't fall off the spiral staircase at the beginning, you won't have to fight the devils. The rest of the monsters are easy to take out, and the dungeon is short, making this a pretty easy quest.

Initiate ~ Ninja, evil (The Pit)
Difficulty: hard (this is probably the most complex quest in the game)
Monsters: Sorcerers, Water Elementals, Golems, Vampires, Liches
Where you go: School of Sorcery (Bracada), Castle Harmondale (optional), Hidden Tomb (Erathia)
Comments: This quest is pretty complex. First, you have to get the scroll of waves from the School of Sorcery. The basic cryptography scroll in Castle Harmondale will help you decipher the scroll, but is not required. Finally, you get the mask from a sarcophagus in the Hidden Tomb, in SE Erathia.

Paladin ~ Crusader (Erathia)
Difficulty: medium
Monsters: Blue Dragon
Where you go: Dragon's Cave (Tatalia)
Comments: Dragon's can be a tough opponent early in the game, but there is nothing else in the cave, making it a little easier. Protection from Water helps alot.

Crusader ~ Hero, good (Erathia)
Difficulty: easy
Monsters: Rats, Champions of the Sword
Where you go: William Setag's Tower (Deyja)
Comments: A very small dungeon with only a few enemies. Make sure you kill all of them: one of them carries the Villain's Blade, a powerful sword.

Crusader ~ Villain, evil (Deyja)
Difficulty: medium
Monsters: Champions of the Sword, Swordsmen, Archers
Where you go: Castle Gryphonheart (Erathia)
Comments: There are many more guards here than on the good quest. You can make life easier by avoiding some fights. Alice is down the hall going left from the entrance.

Archer ~ Warrior Mage (Avlee)
Difficulty: medium, very irritating, though
Monsters: Oozes, Medusas
Where you go: Red Dwarf Mines (Bracada)
Comments: You can do this at the same time as the save the dwarves quest, if your party is tough enough to handle the Medusas on the second level. The lift control is in the room to the far east of the second level. You'll have to fight a bunch of Medusas to get to it, which is annoying because of their status affecting powers. Also, to the north is a room with more powerful Medusas. If you kill them, one of them carries the Medusas Amulet, which protects a character from stoning.

Warrior Mage ~ Master Archer, good (Harmondale)
Difficulty: hard
Monsters: Titans
Where you go: Titan Stronghold (Avlee)
Comments: To complete this quest, your party has to be very powerful, very good at dodging blows, or have the Invisibility spell. Go west from the entrance to find the Perfect Bow.

Warrior Mage ~ Sniper, evil (Avlee)
same as the Master Archer quest above

*Ranger ~ Hunter (Tularean Forest)
Difficulty: easy
Monsters: none
Where you go: Hall Under the Hill (Avlee)
Comments: By far the easiest promotion quest, you just have to enter the Hall and talk to the faerie king. If you can't find the entrance, try circling the hill, and it will reveal itself. Doing this quest with the Deliver the Letter secondary quest (also from Tularean Forest) saves you some time, since both require that you talk to the same person.

Hunter ~ Ranger Lord, good (Bracada)
Difficulty: medium
Monsters: Archers, Swordsmen, Champions of the Sword
Where you go: Mercenary Guild (Tatalia), SE Island in Tularean Forest
Comments: Alot of fights in the Mercenary Guild can be avoided by not opening the doors. However, the dungeon is not that tough, so a higher level party will have little trouble. Get the heart of the forest from the Guild, and take it to the oldest tree on an island in the Tularean Forest.

Hunter ~ Bounty Hunter, evil (Tularean Forest)
Difficulty: easy
Monsters: vary
Where you go: Any Town Hall
Comments: All you have to do is collect 10000 gold in bounties. Since every town has a Town Hall, you can complete this in a month, especially with Town Portal. Why does the Ranger get such easy promotion quests?

Cleric ~ Priest (Deyja)
Difficulty: easy
Monsters: Thieves, Skeletons, Ghosts
Where you go: Tidewater Caverns (island in Tatalia)
Comments: An easy quest to complete, the map is hidden behind a secret door. If you can't find it, its in the room with the barrels and the round hole in the floor.

Priest ~ Priest of the Light, good (Celeste)
Difficulty: easy
Monsters: Clerics of the Moon, Wights
Where you go: Grand Temple of the Moon (Evenmorn Island)
Comments: The Clerics and Wights here aren't that tough, so you shouldn't have much trouble. Just click on the altar to purify it. Also, one of the statues for the Place the Statues secondary quest is here.

Priest ~ Priest of the Dark, evil (Deyja)
Difficulty: easy
Monsters: Clerics of the Sun, Monks
Where you go: Grand Temple of the Sun (Evenmorn Island)
Comments: Similar to the good quest. Another one of the statues for the Palce the Statues secondary quest is here.

Druid ~ Great Druid (Tularean Forest)
Difficulty: medium
Monsters: whatever roams the outdoor region you're in
Where you go: shrines in Avlee, Evenmorn, and Tatalia
Comments: The quest sounds easy, but some of the shrines are guarded by tough monsters. Also, since you need to go to Evenmorn Island to complete this quest, you have to complete the Priest quest first.

Great Druid ~ Arch Druid, good (Tularean Forest)
Difficulty: easy
Monsters: Gogs, undead
Where you go: Tunnel to Nighon (Stone City), Dwarven Barrows (3 entrances in Barrow Downs)
Comments: If you've already been to Nighon, you may have come across the skull already. If not, its easy to retrieve (NE part of Tunnels). Then, return to the Barrows (again) and go to the barrow marked with the ankh (the one form the Initiate quest). Inside you will find the sarcophagus to return the remains to.

Great Druid ~ Warlock, evil (Nighon)
Difficulty: hard
Monsters: Dragons, Titans, Devils
Where you go: Dragond Cave (Land of the Giants)
Comments: The Land of the Giants is the games hardest outdoor location, so you might find this quest tough. You need to find one of the caves (way up on top of mountains) and steal a dragon egg from some dragons. The other problem is, not only do you have to deal with the monsters here, but you need to get here through the Eofol Tunnels (which contain Behemoths and Medusas).

Sorcerer ~ Wizard (Bracada - School of Sorcery)
Difficulty: easy-medium
Monsters: whatever roams outdoor area you're in
Where you go: Avlee, Barrow Downs, Bracada, Deyja, Tatalia
Comments: Not hard, although the Water Elementals guarding the Avlee part are tough.
Location of Parts
Head: Bracada, up on the hill just south of the stables in the NE (the other is a fake)
Torso: Barrow Downs, take the bridge south from Stone City, then take the bridge leading SW
Right Arm: Tatalia, on the west island (the one with the Tidewater Caverns)
Left Arm: Avlee, on the middle island in the western sea (the one with the obelisk)
Right, Left Leg: Deyja, in the hills to the east of the town in the NW, and in the NE part of the map

Wizard ~ Archmage, good (Bracada - School of Sorcery)
Difficulty: hard
Monsters: Necromancers, Liches, Vampires, Fire Elementals, Gogs, Behemoths
Where you go: Breeding Grounds (The Pit)
Comments: If you haven't been there yet, you'll also have to clear out the Hall of the Pit, which is extremely easy. The difficult part is wading through the horde of Liches, Necromancers, and Vampires in guarding The Pit. The monsters in the Breeding Zone aren't too tough, especially if you know where you're going. The Book of Divine Intervention can be found to the west of the entrance (just take the first west hall you come to, and watch out for secret doors). Invisibility, anyone?

Wizard ~ Lich, evil (The Pit)
Difficulty: medium-hard
Monsters: Air Elementals, Genies, Sorcerers
Where you go: Walls of Mist (Celeste)
Comments: The entrance to the Walls is near where the teleporter takes you. If you use Town Portal instead, you will have to fight Angels, so avoid doing that. Inside, you will have to complete the Walls just like a good player, except for the fact that you can kill the creatures inside. Once you have the key from each teleporter, use them in the main room and you'll find a chest with the soul jars.
