Barry's Page o' Middle History
After I graduated high skool I stayed in my hometown in Wisconsin for most of the summer. I thought I would give Texas a try, that lasted almost 2 months.
With work prospects looking grim I moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota. I found a job right away. I worked as a cashier in a Super America convenience store. In January 1986 I lost my job.
I moved back home and was looking for work again. With prospects looking grim again, I decided to join the Navy. On March 25, 1986 I went to Boot camp at Great Lakes, Il. While in boot camp I was a squad leader. I graduated in May 1986.
I went from the cold to the warm. I then spent the next year-and-a-half in Orlando, Florida going to school to learn to become an electrician and how to drive nuclear power plants. I graduated in October 1987.
From there I went to Idaho Falls, Id. for more school. Here I learned more about the power plants, and how they operated hands on. I met my future ex-wife my second night in town. I graduated this school a month early in April 1988, but left in May.
After I was home for a month, and got married. I transferred to the USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70). At this time it was stationed in Alameda. California. While stationed the we did 2 WESTPACS (Western Pacific) cruises. I stayed there until May 1990. It was about this time my wife decided to run off with some other dude.
The ship was scheduled to go into the shipyards in Bremerton, Washington, so I went with. I stayed there until June 1991. While there I was considered a systems heavy and became a training Petty Officer.
One year later I came up for orders and chose recruiting duty in Richmond, Virginia. I spent the longest time there, until October of 1994.
I stayed in Richmond for a little over three years. I came up for orders and chose the theodore roosevelt stationed in Norfolk, Va. While I was home on vacation is when my Navy career ended. This is when I made contact with the radio in the '65 Ford.
