Yomatsu Hara-Sakai: Part 1
by Korogi
* *

Hiei crouched just within the shadows
of the large oak tree, staring out into the cool, Tokyo night. Across
from his hiding place, a parking lot of an apartment complex slept silently
in the moonlight. He watched cautiously, like a body guard, watching
a lighted window ... watching a tall shadow walk back and forth through
the curtain hanging in the kitchen window of Kurama's apartment.
Peering from his conceillment, he
surveyed the terrain beyond for any signs of those pesky ningen people.
The dark lot was absent of all life, except the large rat that sifted through
a fallen garbage can at the base of the tree.
With a silent whisper of displace
air, Hiei was gone from the tree branch, moving in a black streak to poise
himself carefully in the open bedroom window, balancing perfectly on the
thin sill.
Kurama wore his usual dark-pink
Chinese high-colar and pants, his long, brilliantly red hair tied behind
his shoulders in a loose braid as he stood in the middle of the kitchen.
He hummed a tune to himself, bringing over a bowl of rice and setting it
on the large, oak low-table.
With a satisfied grin, he stood
back, admiring his handy work ... glancing at the clock on the wall. 11:30
... he wondered if Hiei was EVER going to make his routine Friday-night
visit.
He turned around to get the chopsticks
... only to be startled out of his daydreaming as he laid eyes on Hiei,
standing boldly in the middle of the kitchen ... arms crossed across his
chest.
Kurama released his breath, bringing
a hand up to his chest. "Can't you at least knock?" He opened
his arms wide and approached the little, yokai, embrassing him tightly.
Hiei stood for a minute, arms hanging
loosly to his side before he brought an arm up and wrapped it around Kurama's
waist. He leaned his head on the man's chest and looked off at the
table.
"Hungry? I made enough for
two."
"No."
Kurama smiled and bent down, kissing
the side of the little face. "Well, are you going to keep me company
tonight then?"
He shrugged, but said nothing, wiggling
out from under the man's grip.
"I have a bottle of sake warmed,"
the green eyes smiled. Kurama watched with a sly grin as Hiei's face
lit slightly.
"Sake?" the yokai asked quietly.
"OHHH!!! My aching back-side!"
Yusuke groaned as Keiko slid in to the booth across from him at a local
sushi resturant.
"Well, maybe next time you won't
call me a 'fat cow', Urameshi," she said simply, looking over the menu.
Yusuke pouted, rubbing his rump
before taking up a menu too, yawning widely. "Did ya have to kick
me THAT hard?"
"Yup."
He groaned, flipping down the menu
before folding it quickly. "Ya know, I've been thinking about something."
He leaned his elbows on the table and arched forward.
"That Yomatsu place, right?"
Keiko watched as her fiance nodded. "Hmph ... doesn't surprise
me. And that Yo-mawari still bugs me," she squirmed, folding her
menu. "Even if he obeys every will-and-command of Hiei ... and claims
to be
Kurama's brother ... can we trust him?"
Yusuke suddenly tensed as
he stared into Keiko's face, turning his head slightly as if asking a question
with his eyes. She surveyed his stiff features with a raised eyebrow,
waving a hand before his vision and watching as he seemed to ponder the
unponderable.
Yusuke suddenly gasped, his eyes
grew wider and he broke the gaze, whipping around to stare out the
window. "What in the hell ... "
"What?" Keiko whispered, leaning
forward.
As an answer to her question,
a large portion of the Tsukij Fish Market suddenly exploded into flying
ship debris and dirt, lighting the sky with a huge mushroom-cloud of fire.
Yusuke lept from his side of the
booth, sailing over the table and tackled Keiko to the floor just before
a Volvo crashed through the window, flattening the entire south end
of the resturant.
"Good god!!" Keiko screeched as
mass-panic began to take over the resturant, yells and screams of the people
striking up around them. "What was that?"
Yusuke grimmaced, feeling a hot
energy begin to float in. "You-ki," he grumbled between clenched
teeth. "Keiko, wait here!" he pointed a finger to her, looking her
straight in the eyes, daring her to protest. He put an exclaimation
to the command by tapping his finger on the tip of her nose, and took to
his feet, hopping over the tabled-Volvo and out the shattered window.
"Yusuke no baka!!!" she screamed,
making it to her feet. "Come back here before you get yourself killed!!!"
Kurama gingerly poured Hiei a cup
of sake, fixing him with a careful look. "Now, not to much ... remember
what happened the last time?"
Hiei groaned roughly as he began
to sip, remembering the horendous headache and the acounts of his drunken
actions three nights ago. Hiei's head had really never stopped aching
since ... strange stuff, what these ningen called alcohol.
Kurama grinned, serving himself.
"So, are you sticking around tonight ... or what?"
"I supose I can stay .. if I have
to," he grumbled lowly, looking at Kurama out of the corner of his wild
eyes. "If you want me to."
Kurama reached over and took
Hiei into his arms, hoisting him onto his lap. The little yokai just transplanted
himself like an obediant statue and sat on Kurama's lap silently, sipping
away at his cup like nothing happened. Kurama pulled at the white
scarf encasing Hiei and massasged his neck and back, hoping to ease his
headache. The little yokai sighed slightly, relaxing.
He reached out for the sake bottle,
grabbing a hold of it ...
... and a large explosion shook
the foundations of the apartment, rattleing them around as if an earthquake
had just hit full force. Around them, dishes immediately clammered
to the floor ... bookshelves buckled and crashed to the center of the room.
The lights went dead, plunging all of existence around them into blackness,
lit only my the moon outside.
The two were to their feet and out
the front door in an instant, Hiei blinking off to stand in the bow of
his tree.
The shockwave from the blast hit
seconds later, radiating from the sight throwing around trash cans and
over-turning cars in the chaos-path. The blast knocked Kurama flat
and sent Hiei tumbling out of the tree, tossing anything that wasn't rooted
around like so many poker-chips. He managed to flip and land steadily
on the ground beside Kurama, ducking as a motorcycle flew overhead, ending
its existence in another explosion as it smashed into a wall.
And then the feeling hit ... the
unmistakable power of demon ki, radiating quickly past them, following
the shockwave closely like a lost puppy..
"Looks like we're canceling that
date of yours, Kurama," the yokai growled with a smile.
