A Devil in a Rose
by Korogi

Kurama was dreaming ... he knew he was dreaming ... the lugging feeling, the unawareness, the sensation of being totally unconscious and imobile. He thought he had all his senses around him save one ... his sight. For the life of him, Kurama could not get his eyes to open. It was a weird sort of dream he was stuck in ... almost entirely too real. And try as he might, he couldn't wake up.

Then the strange voices hit him, rolling in steadily on his tired and unmoving body, like a thunderstorm, growing into an ever-rising whine of far- off voices, turning quickly into shrill whispers.

"This is the one?" a harsh voice whispered. Kurama felt a poke at his arm ... and he realized he was completely paralyzed, strapped down to something hard and cold. He no longer was sleeping in his comfortable fouton back in the Ningenkai ... where was he? Who were these people?

"Hai," a quick answer whispered. "This is the youko we need."

"Youko? He looks ningen to me."

Kurama struggled to open his eyes, succeeding in only cracking his left one. Light spilled into his logged eye, his retina quickly adjusting to the sudden change in illumination. From beyond his body, he saw a light straight overhead and several bodies standing around him. They were all hidden in deep shadows, and he received no sensations from them whatsoever... as if they weren't even there.

One of the shadowed bodies reached an arm over his view, flashing the overhead light at him. "He appears ningen ... but watch." Kurama felt his body shift slightly. His own you-ki spilled in on him as he felt his body begin to take its demon form.

There was a hushed aweing around the room. "Amazing."

"Shall I implant the device?" a voice hissed.

"Hai ... and do it quickly. There is no telling how long this half-breed will be out."

"What shall we do with him when we're done?"

"Put him back in the Ningenkai...where you found him. We want no suspicions."

"Hai! And his lover? The one with the third eye?"

"He'll deal with him too. But our number one concern is the one they call Urameshi Yusuke."

Kurama felt his neck split open ... felt the pain associated with it as something was shoved into the deep slash ... but he still couldn't move. He closed his eye tight and felt a fog cover his mind, seconds before he lost consciousness.

***

Hiei huffed, crossing his arms roughly over his chest as he sat cradled in a crook of the tree outside Kurama's window. "Damn kitsune," he growled, adjusting his position so the rising sun didn't beat down on his head. "Gone all night and wouldn't even tell me where the hell he went. Feh!" The little yokai turned ruby eyes back to the window.

The bed sat completely empty and a mess. The sheets of the futon were flung around the floor, his room a complete disaster as though he had taken ever drawer and file and flung it about existence in a fit of rage. If it wasn't for the total absence of demon ki, Hiei would have thought Kurama had been kidnapped.

Hiei turned and squirmed out of the adjusting sunlight, removing the bandanna from his forehead. He closed the red eyes tight as the third eye adorning his forehead ... his jagan ... opened in a brilliance of purple light.

Hiei's mind flew through reality, searching out Kurama's aura. It wasn't like the man to flit off without telling anyone... it just wasn't his style. He had always double and triple checked with Yusuke and the group before going off out of town, just incase they needed him. And to be gone since noon the previous day, missing school, forgetting to open the bedroom window for Hiei, not showing up home at all ...

.... Hiei's mind found Kurama ... surprisingly, the man was ....

.... Hiei opened his eyes to find Kurama laying on the disheveled bed, nearly hanging off, ready to plummet to the bedroom floor below. The little yokai humphed and stared at the window, stepping lightly out onto the limb.

Something red ran down Kurama's neck, pooling at the crick of his shoulder.

Blood.

Hiei leapt swiftly, the window shattering a fraction of a second later as he broke through into the room beyond.

Kurama slid from the bed to be caught just as Hiei landed, pulling the limp body down to the floor. Hiei turned the man over, adjusting so he wouldn't be trapped under the weight, pulling the long, red hair up over his head.

A horizontal slash ran across the back of Kurama's neck, bleeding profusely. Hiei reached a hand down and cupped it over the wound, turning Kurama's flimsy body over in his arms. "Kurama!" he said, shaking the body violently. "Wake up, kitsune ... what the hell happened to you?"

Kurama groaned as he was sat up, rubbing his eyes.

Hiei flipped the hair forward to expose the bleeding neck. He slowly removed his hand ... to find absolutely no trace of the slash remaining, the blood beginning to slowly fade and disappear from view.

Hiei stared in disbelief down at his clean hand, turning it over and over, sifting through Kurama's red hair and shirt with the other.

The neck tensed and Kurama's face spun around to stare at Hiei. A pissed facade took the normally gentle face, the now crystal-clear green eyes burrowing into Hiei as he stared back with an equal look. "What do you want?" Kurama spat, standing quickly to his feet and tossing the red hair behind his shoulders. He fixed the yokai with an all-too-familiar Hiei-esque glare, adjusting his T-shirt and sweats he had worn to bed the day before last.

"Where were you all night, Kurama?" Hiei inquired, crossing arms across his chest

.
"Must you know EVERY detail of my life?! I wanted to get out .. get away ... get away from YOU!"

Hiei snorted and raised an eyebrow. "Oh really? You sure you weren't just out flagging down ningen meat? I know how the females go all-stupid over you ... drooling like rabid dogs at your heels."

"Jealous?" Kurama sneered, glaring back.

"At you? HA!"

"No ... You're JEALOUS!!" The man smiled evilly, reaching down to pick up a bed sheet.

Hiei grimaced, watching the man move. "Something wrong, Kurama? Yer not yourself."

The green eyes turned to him, smiling with a flash of gold. "Of course I am," the mood suddenly shifted, the face melting back into the normal, disarming smile. Kurama rubbed the back of his neck slightly, feeling a solid device move under his skin. He smiled widely and reached out for Hiei, drawing the koorime to him.

Hiei let his mind wander ... something he usually couldn't do successfully when Kurama was conscious. The jagan scanned the body ... flashing brilliant pictures of a blinding light and tall shadows hovering over him.

"You must be tired," Kurama's voice floated in, stopping all feed Hiei got. "Sleep, now. I'm sorry to have worried you," the handsome voice lulled.

Hiei took a deep breath, letting his head relax against the chest. Something wasn't right here, though he couldn't put a finger on it. He felt Kurama easily lift his body and sit on the bed, letting the little yokai shift comfortably and curl into Kurama's pillow.

Kurama reached a hand up and smoothed back the black hair. He smiled, watching the child-like boy fall into an almost immediate deep sleep. The emerald eyes flashed gold ... the red hair lengthened into strands of fine silver ...

... and youko Kurama absorbed his mind into the mind of the sleeping koorime.

***

It was typical of Hiei's dreams ... dark, warm and completely random. Yoko Kurama stood beautifully set against the deep green forest background. His eyes scanned the environment, smiling evilly as he pulled a rose from beneath the white robes. The rose glimmered slightly, the stem growing long and sharped, the flower's thorns growing to point up towards the rose head in long, pronged barbs.

A streak of black crossed his vision ... Hiei was hunting down a Makai deer. It bound through the woods, three sets of pointed, menacing horns and almost razor-like hooves breaking tree branches and cutting deep grooves into the earth. The yoko watched the little black flash hunt down and corner the deer, moving in for a swift kill.

Youko Kurama himself moved in as the deer body disappeared. He kept a close, golden eye on his target, gripping the rose-dagger tightly just out of sight.

Hiei was in his vision in an instant, a playful twinkle to the two blood-red eyes. He quickly sheathed the quick sword as Kurama beckoned him into his arms. He knew Hiei was so much easier to deal with when dreaming ... easier to get at.

The long limbs wrapped around the little body, pulling him in close. Hiei snuggled his head into the folds of the white material adorning the yoko body. "Why are you here?" he asked.

Youko Kurama just sighed, raising a hand and the menacing rose-dagger. "Just here on a little business, Hiei-shinju."

Hiei growled. "Don't call me that!" He drew back and looked up into the gold eyes. "Business?" Hiei cocked his head like a confused pet. The gold eyes glared down at him ... and Hiei suddenly realized that the ever-present aura of you-ki that emanated from the man was somehow different ... not Kurama at all!. He tried to draw back ... seconds before a sharp pain radiated from a concentrated point on his back.

Hiei reeled from the man's grip as Kurama yanked the barbed rose stem from his back, shredding a huge hole in the yokai's shirt and flesh.

Hiei barely had time to draw his sword as the fox leapt for another attack. The entire left side of his body was useless ... unresponsive ... he forced his mind to awaken seconds before the yoko's next attack came.

***

Hiei's eyes shot wide open, Kurama's green eyes hovering over him, laughing him ... mocking him. Hiei felt the sheet under him growing wet and warm as the hole in his back bled profusely. His lung had collapsed, several ribs were most likely broken ...

"You're not Kurama," he gasped painfully, quickly contemplating how he was going to get out of this one.

The green eyes smiled, growing black and cold. "And what are YOU going to do about it, worthless child?"

Hiei found his strength and speed, quickly breaking from beneath the body to leap out the window.

Kurama fumbled backwards. "Damn! He's quicker than I thought!" He glanced down to the blood-stained sheets. "K'so! Hmm ... but he won't be too much trouble. He's too seclusive. Who would believe this ... Kurama ... would try to kill him?"

***

Below, on a morning trek to school, two figured walked slowly.

***

Kazuma ran a nervous hand through his red hair as he walked aside from Yukina, smiling as she reached a hand up and wrapped it around his arm. "Beautiful morning, ne?"

"Uh .. yeah! Really!" He shifted his books and looked down to her, the morning sun blaring off her blue hair. "Hey Yukina," he said, looking off down the sidewalk.

She turned thoughtful, wild eyes up to him. "Hai?"

"I was wondering ... "

"Wonder later, oaf," something growled above him. Kuwabara Kazuma slid to a halt, reeling Yukina behind him defensively. "I need to talk to Yukina," the tree growled.

"Hiei! S'that you, you little idiot? Go away!"

"Shut up! I've got more important things to do than argue with a dumb ox!"

Kuwabara braced to retort when he noticed something dark dripping to a puddle on the sidewalk. "Blood? Hiei, what's wrong?"

"Go away!"

Yukina stepped out and looked up into the tree. "Hiei-san? What's wrong."

"We need to talk," the leaves rustled. From the tree, they heard Hiei groan slightly, a mother few drops of crimson blood landing with a splash on the white sidewalk. "Kuwa ... stay away from him. Keep Yukina away from him ... "

Kuwabara scratched his head. "Who?"

"Kurama, you idiot. Stay away from him!"

"Hey, what you two do in your spare time ... "

"Damn it, SHUT THE HELL UP AND LISTEN TO ME!!" Hiei's body jumped from the tree and landed rather clumsily on the sidewalk, crouched low. He raised a finger to Yukina. "Stay away from him, no matter what!"

"Hiei! Have you gone mental!" Kuwabara reached out to smack the yokai up-side the head, until he noticed the stream of blood flowing down the small, strong arm. "What happened?" he gasped, bending down.

The wild eyes stared back up at him, glaring through his head. "Kurama ... he's not .... Kurama," he forced his teeth together, inhaling deeply. "He did this."

"Oh god, Hiei-san!!" Yukina bellowed, sinking to the ground beside him, clasping a healing hand over the gaping whole in his back.

Kuwabara reached over and grabbed Hiei's body, his refusing groans barely escaping as he was hoisted into the tall man's arms. "You'll hate me plenty for this one, kid."

***

Kurama walked slowly on his way to school, hands deep in the pockets of his uniform, smiling quietly to himself. One thing occupied his mind ... finding the one they called Yu ...

"Kurama!!"

He startled out of his daydreams, looking off over his shoulder. A tall man, not nearly as tall as he, with short, slicked black hair ran down the sidewalk, frantically waving a hand. "Kurama!!!!"

"Easy as pie," Kurama sneered under his breath, raising a hand to wave vainly.

Yusuke bound up the street, desperately trying to button up his uniform top while balancing his books under his elbow. Kurama smiled as he slid to a halt, frantically monkeying with the shirt.

"Here, let me help," Kurama smiled, slanting his eyes. He reached out and took up the shirt, buttoning the blue buttons carefully. How easy it would be to just strangle the life out of him right here and now ... but a group of girls crossed by, smiling and giggling at the two of them. He cursed slightly, giving them all a smile, drawing more mindless giggles.

He continued on with the buttons. "Did you need something?" Kurama asked, the green eyes staring down into Yusuke's black ones.

"Uh, yeah, actually ... I was wondering if you could help me study for exams. If I don't pass algebra, Keiko'll have my head as a bed post!"

Kurama smiled, pulling the shirt collar out towards him. "Sure." He finished the last button, intentionally missing one, glancing to the black eyes. 'Hm ... what a handsome man, this Urameshi Yusuke ...' "Hey, Yusuke. Would you mind coming with me to pick up some parts for my refrigerator?"

Yusuke raised an eyebrow. "And miss school ... " the two exchanged and equal smile. "Woah, will I ever!"

Kurama took his arm and led him off into the highrises just a few streets over from the school grounds.

"So, where we going?"

Kurama pointed off to an alley. "We can get to it quicker through there."

Yusuke shrugged. "Okay! Guess you know best."

Kurama lead him into the alley, a sly grin forcing to make itself known on his face. "It's just this way," he said, extending a hand back to Yusuke. He watched as the young man stepped his pace up to join Kurama's side, falling into pace.. Kurama reached out a hand and stopped him, turning him towards him. "I forgot a button," he said, leaning down, taking Yusuke's shirt back in his hand. He pulled the shirt towards him, bringing Yusuke with it as he sprawled forward, nearly crashing into the tall, redhead. Kurama leaned in slowly ... seductively ... running his nose over Yusuke's cheek.

Yusuke turned bright red. "Uh, Kurama ... "

The man laid a hand on his cheek, gently kissing Yusuke's ear. "What?" he whispered, summoning the rose-stem dagger to his other hand.

"Um ... look, I .... we need to get back to school."

"Why?" Kurama ran a finger over his cheek and down his neck, pulling again at the buttons on the uniform, quickly unbuttoning the work he had done earlier.

"Kurama .. " Yusuke pushed at the man's chest, drawing away. "Look, I'm flattered ... I think ... but ... "

Kurama took his face in one of his soft hands and moved in quickly, pressing his lips firmly down to Yusuke's. The young man gasped under the sudden action, Kurama slipping his tongue into his mouth. Yusuke squirmed as Kurama wrapped his long arms around him tightly, slowly settling the young man down as he kissed him passionantly, letting it all happen.

Kurama smiled as he began to withdraw, pulling back slowly to stand nose to nose, gazing those green eyes at Yusuke. He gripped the hilt of the dagger, turning it to point down to the young man's back as he smiled and kissed his nose lightly.

"But Hiei ... Kurama, I HAVE a fiancee, you know."

"Not for long," Kurama smiled, the eyes glancing gold. Yusuke stared back up at him, worried as the eyes faded in and out, volleying between green and gold.

"What the hell do you mean?"

Kurama shrugged, grasping the dagger hilt and rasing it behind Yusuke's back. "Guess you'll never find out .. "

"KURAMA!!!" Kuwabara slid into the alley, rei-ken blazing. "Yusuke, get away from him!!!"

Yusuke glanced up to Kurama ... the once gentle, seductive smile gone as the man's face became hard and cold. He felt him reel back an arm ... and he ducked, watching as Kurama swung with nauseating ease, a sharp, rose dagger, clipping him on the arm.

"What the ... " he stumbled back as Kuwabara stationed himself between the two, a sharp pain overtaking his left arm.

Kurama cursed silently, slinking back. He still wasn't quite sure how to use this human body ... and the yoko body was too difficult to control. In a last minute decision, he leapt straight into the air, disappearing.

"Shit!" Kuwabara spat, closing down the sword.

"Kazuma ... what in the world is going on?" Yusuke groaned, cupping a hand over his heavily bleeding arm.

Kuwabara turned quickly, clasping a hand over Yusuke's, trying to help him stop the growing river of blood. "Something's wrong with Kurama."

"No shit, Sherlock! He just tried to kill me!"

"Looks like that's not ALL he tried to do ... " he said smugly, receiving a swat from Yusuke.

"Shut up," he moaned as Kuwabara tied a piece of cloth tightly around his arm. "I wonder just what in the world happened to him!"

"I think Hiei might know ... but he ain't talkin'. Kurama got him pretty bad! He'll be okay ..."

"Hiei?" Yusuke fixed him with a concerned glance. Suddenly his face stiffened. "Oh God ... Keiko!"

***

Keiko shifted in her place on the park ground, nestled quietly under a tree reading through a book when a tall shadow blocked her sunlight. She looked up quickly, a smile crossing her face as the tall figure smiled down to her. "Ohayo, Kurama," she smiled as he sat down next to her. "Aren't you supposed to be in school?"

"Something came up," he shrugged, looking over at her. "Could you help me with something?"

"Sure! Nani?" she let Kurama help her to her feet, still smiling widely. A figure flashed through view behind him and she glanced around him. Instead of finding Hiei as she thought she would, she saw Kuwabara and Yusuke racing across the park, yelling something she couldn't understand.

Kurama reached out and threw an arm around her shoulders, hugging her to him. She raised a hand and waved. "OI! Yusuke, you're supposed to be in school, baka!"

"Kieko! Get away from him!!" he yelled back, racing across the park, hopping picnic baskets and dodging flocks of pigeons.

Kieko snorted. "He thinks I'm cheating?" She gathered her voice and yelled out. "Oh, get over yourself Yusu ...ACK!!"

Kurama pulled Keiko over, grasping an arm about her neck, sticking something pointed into the crick of her shoulder tightly. She gasped, pulling at the strong arm. "Kurama ... what are you doing?"

"Shh!" he ordered, shaking her violently.

Yusuke slid to a halt, pulling Kuwabara to stop with him. "Kurama .. I swear, you hurt her ..."

"Oh come-come, now," the man taunted, twirling the rose on her neck, drawing a small trickle of blood. Keiko gasped in his grip, trying to pull away from the blade.

"KURAMA!!!!" Yusuke stepped forward, being restrained by Kuwabara. "What do you want?"

"You, Urameshi,"he replied coldly, putting an exclamation to the statement by shaking Keiko, who promptly screamed.

Yusuke cursed, stepping forward. "Fine! Take me ... but let her go NOW!!"

Kurama smiled as he called the plants around Yusuke to bind his legs. Yusuke stood obediently as the plants wrapped around him, setting a deathly glare on Kurama. "You're not going to get away with this, who ever you are!"

"Oh, but I already have ... I have you ... and that's all they wanted."

Yusuke tensed under the plants. "Let Keiko go."

"As you wish," he smiled brilliantly, slowly bringing the dagger from her neck, releasing his prisoner. Keiko inched forward before she was sure she was free.

She jumped across the park, throwing herself at Yusuke, knocking him flat onto his back in a defened 'oof!'. He wrapped his arms around her, keeping a close eye on Kurama.

"Yusuke, what's going on?" she whimpered into his ear.

"Shh ... Go on now," he whispered to her, sitting up and pushing her back. Keiko sat back, glaring, raise a hand and smacked him. "HEY!" he bellowed.

"You didn't have to do that!" she yelled. "I had everything under control!"

Yusuke bit his tongue, struggling to his bound feet. "Keiko .. get out of here!" he hissed.

Kuwabara stepped forward and took her gently by the arm, pulling her back.

The plants released their grip on Yusuke as Kurama beckoned him forward. Yusuke ground his teeth together and stepped forward slowly toward the tall, red head.

The long limbs reached out for him, taking him by the shoulders and pulling Yusuke's body to him. Kurama smiled evilly, the green eyes twinkling with devilment as he ran a finger over Yusuke's cheek. The young man smacked his hand away quickly, fixing him with a glare.

"What do you want?"

"Hn, it's not what *I* want ... it's what my masters want." He smiled again, this time, more deadly and serious.

***

Keiko squirmed out of Kuwabara's grip. "We've got to do something!" she hissed.

"Like what?"

A swift breeze followed by a bowing branch answered them both as Hiei blinked into existence in a whisper of displaced air and leaves. He sat carefully, a heavy bandage wrapped tightly around his small, muscular chest. He winced as he adjusted his perch, bringin a hand u to the bandage. "His neck," he said simply. "There's something wrong with his neck."

"Oh, THAT helps!" Kuwabara sneered up to the tree.

"Quiet, hentaii!" he hissed back, watching Kuwabara turn raging colors. "Can you guys get him under control?"

"Oh yeah ... like anyone but you could successfully contain him!"

"That's why you and Yusuke are gonna do it ... besides, he's not as strong or fast as the real Kurama."

Kuwabara looked quickly over to Kurama and Yusuke.

***

Kurama grabbed Yusuke roughly by his good arm and pulled him to him. "Now, you promised ... no tricks!"

"As long as you keep your filthy hands of Keiko!"

Kurama bowed slightly with a flourish ... then stopped suddenly, staring off past him. Yusuke turned to see Kuwabara walking slowly forward, hands raised.

"What do you want?"

"Just wanna say good-bye to Yusuke," he said convincingly.

Kurama looked to his captive quickly. "Fine, make it snappy!"

Kuwabara reached out and wrapped his arms around Yusuke, hugging him like an old pal. "His neck," he whispered.

"Huh?"

"Hiei ... he says there's something wrong in his neck. Ya with me?"

"You've got to be kidding me."

Kuwabara drew back, patting his shoulder. "Ready?"

Yusuke groaned, stepping back to join at Kurama's side. The green eyes smiled, snaking an arm around Yusuke's waist, pulling him roughly over to him. Yusuke flailed ... more on purpose ... slipping a hand behind Kurama's hair to grasp his neck.

Something pulsed just under the skin ... something hard and rigid. His eyes widened as he looked back to Kuwabara.

Kuwabara nodded ...

Yusuke nodded ...

... and they both pounced.

Kurama yelled loudly as he was tackled flat, pinned belly first to the ground, trapped under Kuwabara's enormous figure, Yusuke holding his hands above his head. "Come on, Hiei!! This won't work forever!!"

"BASTARDS!!" Kurama yelled, twisting under their weight.

Hiei made it over, rather sluggishly, taking up the rose-stem dagger. He moved, wincing at the pain that ran through his back. "I'm sorry about this, Kurama," he whispered down to the struggle.

Kurama growled deeply ... almost like Hiei himself, struggling more and more.

"Hiei, come on!"

Hiei bent down, holding the malicious dagger. In a single swift movement, he slashed Kurama's neck open, making the man scream in agonizing pain. Hiei grimmaced at Kuramas sickly wail, his own stomach tightened as the blood flowed quickly. He reached his fingers into the wound and quickly found the device ... and ripped it out of his neck, cupping his other hand quickly over the wound before it began to seal.

Kurama's struggled died down with a whine, slumping down to the ground as his body slipped quickly to unsonciousness. Hiei watched as the blood dried and slowly disappeared ... removing his hand to find the perfect skin shinning in the sunlight.

Kurama groaned and blinked his eyes, slowly faorcing himself back into consciousness.

Kuwabara cautiously raised himself from Kurama's back, helping him to his knees.

The red head hung low, cradled in Kurama's hands. "Owch ... my head," he whined, rubbing his temples. He looked up and met Hiei and Yusuke's gaze. "What happened?"

"You mean you don't remember?" Yusuke asked.

Kurama shook his head, watching as Yusuke sighed in relief, rubbing his ear. Hiei tensed and sat back on his rear, watching Kurama with a mixed glare.

Kurama reached a hand out slowly and touched the bandage with a confused glance. Hiei winced and drew back suddenly, watching as Kurama stared on, helplessly. "What happened?" he whispered.

"You did," Hiei snarled. Kurama slunk back, his mouth hanging wide open in disbelief. "You really don't remember?" Yusuke asked. Kurama nodded a negative.

Hiei smiled, baring his fangs, holding up the rose. "But, who were you working for?"

Kurama fixed them all with a confused glance.

***

Youko Kurama appeared with a sideways grin on his face, Yusuke appearing next to him, raspberry sauce dripped all over his face and shirt, succedding to look like blood in the dim light. He looked around the lab room nonchalantly as his companion poked as the oozy raspberry sauce. There was a single table in the middle of the floor, devices and instruments of all kinds huddled around it. Around them as yoko Kurama took Yusuke by the arm, whispers rolled in, surrounding them like an invisible wall.

"Creepy, ne?" Yusuke whispered

"Shh!!!" he hissed, pushing him forward. "Remember ... "

A shadowed figure lumbered forward, pointing a device at Kurama. He stopped, hoping he knew what he was doing. The shadowed figure grunted successfully, reaching out to Yusuke. "A bit rough with our captive, ne?"

Youko Kurama grinned, fingering the rose just hidden in his robes.

Yusuke stumbled along with the shadow, gathering his ki carefully.

The shadow threw him onto the table, reaching for a strap ... but his hand stopped in mid reach ... the shadow looked around to look up to Yoko Kurama smiling playfully down on him. "Insolence!" he grabbed the device and pointed it at Kurama ... the yoko just smiled back.

"Ready, Yusuke?"

"Ready as ever!"
