Ask Bilbo
Here I will be answering questions about Middle Earth. Please send your questions to: carasgaladon@hotmail.com The questions will be posted and answered here. If you would like a reply via e-mail please let me know.
I've gotten quite a few questions, so
if you've sent one it probably won't be answered for about a few weeks. If you know about
something I don't, please let me know.
That said here's the Questions!
From David Kirkman: You said you answered questions
so here is the two that I can't work out:
1) Was Dior half-elven or mortal? and why.
2) Was Arwen half-elven or elven? and why.
If you know the answer I would be very grateful
especially with the first one it all depends
whether you consider Luithien to have become a human
or just accepted the fate of humans. The added complication is that Elwing was half-elven.
I can't work these questions out, please give me the
answer .
Thanks
David Kirkman
1) Dior was neither half-elven or mortal, because
his Grandmother was Melian the Maia , and
because Luithien only accepted the fate of humans. So Dior was actually part Maia, part Elf and part mortal Man
.
2) Arwen and her brothers Elladan and Elrohir were all
given the choice of the half-elven as were
Elrond and Elros (her Father and Uncle).
Q. 1. What was Rhun, the East-Lands like? I never remember getting much off an idea in LotR or The Sillmarillion. 2. Who were the Easter dwarves?
1. Rhun, (a huge desert wasteland next to Mordor) was inhabited by evil men who Sauron controlled totally and they worshiped him as did the Men of Harad, and the Easterlings. In LotR Aragorn mentions that he was once in Rhun and Denethor lamenting the death of his Son, Boromir, tell of Vorondill the Steward of Gondor, father of Mardil (the first ruling steward) hunting in Rhun.
2. Unfortunately I could find nothing about the Easter Dwarves. If you can tell me where you heard about them, I might be able to tell you about them.
Q.Bilbo, Do you know where I can get a copy of the Elven Alphabet and the English translations? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Jeff Quillin
A. First of all there is always Appendix E of LotR and the Appendix of the
Silmarillion but, you might also want to check out my new Elvish
Dictionary. I also know where to get elven fonts, which will automatically translate
english into elvish and vice-versa. Go to:
http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/4948/tengwar.htm
to get them.
Q. I have a friend who says there is a place called "Ellewyndale" in one of the Tolkien books but I have never been able to find mention of it. Do you know anything about this place? He says it is a the secret place of Elves, etc. The only place of this sort I have found is that of Lorien. Please help. Thank you,
Jayne allcrystal@hotmail.com
A. I have heard of it once, but only the vaguest references, so I can't really
tell you anything about it now. I will keep looking though.
