The Last Tale review By: Cedric Story: Long ago, mankind was at a peak in it's search for knowledge. Man inhabited the stars and knew all, except the answer to the unanswerable questions like 'why are we here?'. A scientist then discovered magic and through it, learned the answers. He compiled his findings in a journal. But in his thirst for knowledge, he didn't realize the danger in his discoveries. The power took over him and created him into a fearful beast that terrorized the lands until a hero named Terrence destroyed him. This is the second game in development by Xanathis and Tetsu. From the little that they have done so far, it is an amazing game. They have their act well together for this one. They put together a great opening sequence where a scientist discovers the book and then a boy steals it thinking it's for him. The boy devastates a town and your heroine (a descendant of Terrence) must destroy the book. They decided to use an SD (super deformed) character set with the cute big heads and such. The map tilesets they decided to use goes good with the character set. Once again, the music is wonderful and really sets the right mood, especially the forest music. They did a great effect with the trees and doors, making it so that you can walk through doors and walk behind trees. And they made a graphic textbox that shows where you are at when you enter an area like the woods or the town. There appears to be more speech by the main character this time, unlike in Mystic Lore. I can't wait to see the next installment. Sound/Music - 92% maps/monsters - 91% storyline - 94% Score = 92.3%
