Mystic Lore Review By: Cedric Story: You start out as a sailor (well, at least somebody on a ship) and you get into a shipwreck. When you're character wakes up, he finds himself alone in a desert and there's an old man. You're adventure starts out when you talk to the man and you find about an evil character calling himself Anarchy. You're goal is to stop Anarchy and save the world. Well, this is the first game Xanathis and Tetsu have made. You can tell as you go through that they were learning as they went, because things get better the farther into the game you go. They used the default tilesets for characters and the map tiles. Used most of the original monsters too. The game has some problems in the story. There is a lack of development in the characters and you tend to wonder why you are out to kill Anarchy. Sure, Anarchy killed your parents, but the game doesn't show it much as a quest of revenge. Then there are other characters who show up and join, but it's a weak reason for why they join. You only learn about it much later in the game. The monsters also get extremely strong near the end. Where the game shines is in the music. There is a lot of music of music ripped from Final Fantasy of course, but not as much as some other games I've played. The music most of the time set the right mood and was really good. I especially liked the music in the battle against Vile Requiem. There are also two secret areas in the game that are hinted at. I also liked some of the puzzles they did. The sound puzzle in one of the caves, the teleport puzzle in cherry grove, and some of the stuff in the castle was great. They also had a good part where your party gets a balloon and goes on a wild ride, ending up crashing. The end of the game looks like it was a bit rushed, but it's not bad. It pretty much shows how every character went on in life and doesn't leave any loose ends in that area. Also looks like they might have a sequel. Be interesting to see what they do about that. Music/Sound - 98% Story - 80% map designs/monsters - 90% score = 89.3%
