Shield: None initially.
Levels:
1st- Repair javelin once per life.
2nd- 1 stun javelin (reusable). 1 flame javelin (reusable).
3rd- +1 damage with all thrown javelins (2 damage ).
4th- +1 life (total of 5). 1 armor piercing javelin (reusable).
5th- May use a small shield.
6th- 1 penetration javelin(reusable).
Notes:
1) Repair javelin- requires 100 count, and may only be done on one's own javelin.
2) Javelin types (ribbons tied to javelins or marked with appropriate color duct tape).
· a) Flame (red )- it will destroy a shield if the shield is hit and then not tapped upon the ground five times within 5 seconds of the hit. It will destroy a siege weapon with 2 hits. Only 1 flame javelin may be lit at once, and the javelin will stay lit for 2 minutes before it must be relit. Must say "flame javelin" x 5 to ignite.
· b) Stun (grey )- treat as a subdual blow.
· c) Armor Piercing (blue )- this javelin will pierce any armor and hit the target.
· d) Penetration (white )- as an armor piercing javelin but also destroys shields.
3) Javelins may be used in melee combat. They can be a red weapon if they meet all other requirements.
4) All javelins will be a minimum of 30 inches long.
5) Specialty javelins (IE flame, stun, armor piercing, and penetration) special effects will never count unless thrown. For example: You can use your flame javelin in melee for the standard damage but it will not burn shields.
6) The only person that can catch a javelineer's javelins is a monk.
7) A javelineer's javelins DO NOT break weapons as arrows do. I can see no way of allowing this without completely cracking the class.
Notes of explanation:
1) The javelineer is designed to serve as the archer class in parks that do not allow bows. Once the playtest is over, if it is adopted, will not be allowed in parks where bows are permitted.
2) The one required 5 foot javelin is to encumber the javelineer as a bow would.
3) I would like to thank all involved for their input. This was not my idea. I simply took an idea many have had and I hope, put it into a successful format that will add to the enjoyment without over balancing the game.
4) I tried to change the archer as little as possible. I found
I had to find a balance between less damage and the way you can deliver them much faster. During the experiment with hand axes and extra damage, i found I could send 5 three point axes down range in the time it took to nock and fire two arrows. I found that to be very unbalancing, as did many on the field that day. The archer loses that 5 point punch, but we could never have a two point melee weapon before. Like everything, to find balance is a tradeoff. I think this will work nicely. I hope the rest of you feel the same.
5) Special thanks to Doc, Mithius, and my wife for all her patience and help.
