Assassinations
Anakha was kidnapped by the Black Guild on All Hallow's Eve, her beheaded body was discovered a few weeks later on the outskirts of Sylvan Fenns. She was a Page to Baronet Dalamar, and the Chancellor of Shrouded Valley, she left behind no family. Her body was cremated and her ashes were scattered along the banks of Sapphire Shores. Anakha will be missed by all that knew her.
A message had to be sent. The holdings couldn't be given the impression that open rebellion and defiance of the Crown would be allowed. A demonstration was in order.
Kaeli Nolis had done a great deal for the kingdom and had even taken over Sapphire Shores when that fool, LeVeen, started spending all his time training the troops in Fort Black Sun. Yet even with her long list of past services she would dare to openly defy the king and continue in the service of a knight of Mystic Seas. A knight marked for death.
I almost regretted killing her. The fact that the whole of house Nolis made itself available for poisoning was almost too rich. That the reputed former Guildmistress of Assassins would so easily allow her entire household to be killed. I can but assume that the time she has spent with the knight from MS has made her soft... an easy target.
I could have arranged to have their spirits severed, or just taken their bodies to a vampire and had then enslaved... but out of respect for the position I am told she once held, I didn't. I knew that there would be someone running around Sapphire Shores that could bring her back. I had hoped that she would catch the hint... and understand that there was so much more that could have been done had that been my intent.
To my surprise, she didn't get it.
The first thing she did upon being revived was to name me, Snipe, as her killer and put a bounty on my head... and a pathetically small bounty at that. Evidentially the lives of house Nolis are worth but 40 silver. Personally, I was insulted. If I had been one of those killed due to my association with her, I would be even more insulted.
I had thought as a former member of this fine profession that Kaeli would better respect the assassins code... I did, after all, make a clean kill... without a single witness. Even with the use of a "speak with dead" spell they were unable to discover my identity... Yet she blurted out my name upon returning to life. I had thought a former Guildmistress would certainly have understood the debt that she now owes me for having not severed her spirit, and kept it between assassins, like professionals.
Such, I fear, is not to be. She has made her decision.
Next time, and there will be a next time, we will have to make a harsher example of the supposed former Guildmistress.
