        WEAVING A SPELL
The reason that the word "weave" is stressed in reference to spells is because through this type of work, you become interwoven with the fabric of the universe. Spellweaving allows you to become one with the creative force, the Goddess and God that pervade all. When you weave a spell, it is beneficial to open yourself to the creative energy that flows through each of us. That is the basis of effective magic.

The spell that will be discussed is a simple candle spell. To begin, write down the goal you wish to achieve. Be clear and precise about this. Don't give dates and times of when you would like your spell to manifest. A spell is a like a flower. It grows at it's own pace. Instead of forcing, simply know that by weaving the spell, you have begun the process of change.

After you have written down your goal, begin to choose appropriate correspondences. For example, if we wanted to create the conditions in my life so that I could be married, then we might choose the planet Venus, the color green, and the herb hibiscus as components to the spell. We would also know to cast our spell on Friday during a waxing Moon. Be creative with this process. There are no real "set" rules to spellweaving other than matching up correspondences.

        Casting The Circle

Next, choose a candle based on the color we've selected. In this case we have selected a green candle. On the day that corresponds to your magic (in this case Friday during a waxing Moon), cast a cirle. Set your tools on a small table or special cloth at the center of the space that will become your magic circle. Place the four colored candles at each of the compass points along the perimeter of the circle and light them. beginning in the east.

Next, bless the bowl of water. Hold the athame or your hands over the bowl and imagine that you are channeling energy from your body into the water. You can say words while doing this, like, "Blessings be upon this water." Bless the salt in a similar manner saying, "Blessings upon this salt." Use your athame to scoop out three portions of salt into the water. Stir the two with your fingers, again filling the mixture with your spiritual energy.

Take the salt water to the east of your circle and sprinkle it all along the perimeter, again going clockwise--east, south, west, north, and finishing in the east.

Follow the same procedure for blessing the lit red candle and the smoldering incense on your alter. Take each blessed element to the eastern edge of you circle and consecrate the perimeter going clockwise.

Next, bless yourself with each, element. For water and earth, dab the middle of your brow with the salt and water mixture saying, "I am blessed with the elements of water and earth." To bless yourself with the candle's flame, hold it about twelve inches from the center of your brow saying, "I am blessed with the element of fire." Repeat this with the smouldering incense saying, "I am blessed with the element of air." Then dab the center of your brow with your blessing oil saying, "I am consecrated in the names of the Great Mother and the Horned One."

Next you will invoke the elemental spirits of each quarter of the circle. To do this, draw the invoking pentagram at each quarter. Create your own words of potency to punctuate the magical working as, "I invoke thee, powers of the east. Be with me now!"

Finally, cast the circle with your athame. Start by standing in the east. Point the athame (0r the fingers of your right hand) toward the outer edge of the circle and trace the perimeter, walking clockwise. Use the following magical words:

I summon the circle, the circle I summon!
Power and peace and protection will come in
And bind to the womb of our spiritual birth,
Through air and fire and water and earth

Now your circle is cast. Use the sacred space for magical work or sabbat or esbat celebrations.

When you are finished, close the circle by drawing a banishing pentagram at each quarter. Then, hold your athame pointed toward the east and walk the perimeter counterclockwise. Imagine the circle dispersing and say:

        Earth will crumble my circle.
Water will cause it to fall.
Fire will burn what's lift in the urn
And the winds will scatter it all.

Once you are within your sacred space, use a sharp knife to inscribe you goal onto the candle. Surround it with the corresponding herbs and stones. Next, it is important to raise magical energy. Some people use estatic dance or drumming. Other people create chants that are associated with their goal and incrementally increase the speed at which they chant. Choose a method that works for you.

While you are raising energy, close your eyes and visualize your acheivement of the goal. Again, there are no set rules for how much time it may take to raise and direct the psychic energy. Use your intuition to guide you. At some point you will know that you have raised sufficient energy. When you have, focus intently on the goal, touch your candle with both hands, and release that energy into the candle. Light the candle and know that your goal will manifest.
