FESTIVAL OF THE THREEFOLD GODDESS The spirit of the Festival of the Threefold Goddess is ancient, though its incorporation as a Celtic Pagan feast day is probably a modern invention. No historical precedents exist for this holiday, but its observance is spreading. The most common date set for the festival is January 6th, a date likely selected to make it coincide with Twelfth Night on the Teutonic Pagan and Christian Calendars. Others prefer to use the first New Moon after the Winter Solstice. At its heart is pay homage to the Triple Goddess. This early in the waxing time of the new year the Goddess manifests all three of ther faces to us. She is the maiden of ancient myth who gives birth to the infant God. She is the mother who nurtures him to his infancy. She is the crone whole cold countenance rules the dead season of winter. To the Clets who held the number three and its multiples to be sacred, this multi-faced goddess represented the eternal cycle of death and rebirth for all sentient beings. ~By Edain McCoy~ ~®The Almighty Sorceress, ©2000~ WEBRINGS Image By John Earl Bowser Used with his permission web hosting • domain names web design • online games
