This is my two yen, and not necessarily any other person's two yen. If you disagree with what I've written here, you can have two choices : click on the back browser to go to another page, or make your own misao shrine.^___^
There's always a point in everyone's life where they feel awkward, and that they might not live up to the expectations of others and are afraid of failing. Sometimes they get their hearts broken, and sometimes they live through that heartbreak. Sometimes the little joys they're able to experience in their lives become the best things in their lives to live by.
This is Misao Makimachi.
Everyone views her as the regular happy-go-lucky girl; quick to temper, childish in many ways, yet good at what she does and enjoys doing it. On a deeper look though, Misao's got the average teenage problems a lot of teens have as well; she oozes confidence, but there are times when she isn't sure of herself; she's in love, but she has a hard time expressing how she feels, so she chooses to indulge instead in fantasies and imaginings of her own doing. Pretending that Aoshi loves her is better than knowing that Aoshi doesn't love her in the way that she wants him to.
One of the first things that might come to anyone's mind when they know who Misao is, is that she's immature. True, she can be childish in some ways, but in many other ways she's stronger than she looks. She is quick to realize that the Oniwabanshuu might fall apart without Aoshi, so she immediately announces herself as leader and tries to stuff as much backbone as she can to the remaining members. Also, she's a good leader who takes her job seriously. Unfortunately, not many people sees her serious side. How many teens are serious and responsible in many ways, but in whom the 'adults' only see the side of them that's irresponsible, the side where all the faults lie?
Misao is undergoing that stage where she's no longer a girl but is still an inch away from becoming a woman, and that's always an awkward stage. But even when surrounded by the responsibilities of leadership, and her everyday teenage problems, she still has time to laugh and have fun, and that's what I admire best about her. When a situation arises, Misao does her best to kecho kick her way out of any predicament, and succeed while she's at it.
And on a less analytical note, she's pretty cute.^^ I love her character designs, because she stands out among most of the other female cast of Rurouni Kenshin. Go, girl power!^^
