News And Updates

January 2nd, 2000:  Happy New Year, and welcome to the final year of this millennium.  The Lord of the Nazgul has not arrived yet, and I am checking it's status right now.  I'll post again as soon as I get word.  Oh, incase you are still on the rivendell.fortunecities.com site, I am permanently moving (again, yes I know, its the last time I promise ;-) to mysterymen.simplenet.com/Terragon/index.htm  the 'T' in Terragon is case sensitive on my computer just so you know.   Happy New Year, and I'll be back shortly with more (and hopefully good news Re:Lord of the Nazgul)

December 8th, 1999:  What's this?  An update only two days after the previous one?  Yup yup, as promised, with the end of the fall season I wil have more time for this webpage, which means more updates!  Tonight I uploaded the long-overdue GImli and Gollum photos, next up:  Confessor with his Mask on pics.
December 6th, 1999:  I updated the Astro City Wave 2 and Middle-earth Wave 4 pages to include some more pictures.

December 6th, 1999:  Hello again!  I come with more news!  First the bad:  I am working on those broken images up above (grumble grumble), and updating the Wave 3 pages to include reviews and pictures.

Here's a bit of advice:  If you want a horse for your soon to be released Lord of the Nazgul, look no further than the Headless Horseman Boxed Set from McFarlane Toys (from the movie Sleepy Hollow).  According to Mr. Huston, the Nazgul is pretty much in scale with the horse, the only problem is that the Nazgul's little skirt piece can be a problem since it doesnt want to move.  As soon as i get both the Nazgul and the Horseman set I will post tips on getting this to work.

More news!  Here is a close-up picture of Galadriel's face:

Lord of the Nazgul pictures are coming soon.

The First Major Toy Club Newsletter has begun showing up at people's doorsteps, but if you haven't received yours yet, and want to know "what's up?" then you can email the new netrep at info@toyvault.com

November 24th, 1999:  It's been a while.  Hope I haven't lost to many visitors.  Hopefully I will have more free time now, but no guarentees.

On to the new business:  Galadriel and the Barrow-wight are planned to be soliciatated in December or January, to be released in late Febraury/Early March.

Toy Vault updated thier website to include a few new pictures of the Lord of the Nazgul.  Speaking of the Lord of the Nazgul, it has been reported that the new release date is sometime between December 15th and January 15th....reason for delay....I have no idea.

The first wave of Astro City toys did not sell very well with Diamond's distributers.  Because of this, if the second wave of Astro City toys (Jack-in-the-Box and Winged Victory) don't sell any better, the result will be a cancellation of the line.  No Silver Agent.  No Junkman.  No Altar Boy.  How can you help?  Simply by asking your comic store dealer to order the figures when they are soliciatated in Dec/Jan.

On Friday I will post the long-delayed pictures of Gimli and Gollum, as well as a few shots of the Confessor wearing his new mask.  If anyone has a picture of the Toy Fare Exclusive "Confessor at Work" figure (Both loose and carded) please send them to me.  I am espiecially looking for a picture of the cross glowing in the dark.  Thanks!

October 6th, 1999:  Again, I am sorry for the lack of updates.  School has hit me, and I am left with little free time.  Thank you for your continued support.

Regarding the Message Board:  Someone has been posting under my name spreading false news.  It seems that he is now banned (or got bored and left, either way is fine with me).  So to end any rumors:  Toy Vault IS NOT out of business.  The Lord of the Nazgul IS NOT released (yet).

Gollum and Gimli were released TODAY!!  I got mine at my local comic store here in San Diego (South Cal.).  If your comic store didn't get them in this week, then they will probably come in next week.  Toy Club orders should start arriving within a few days.

My first reaction to Gollum was "Wow!  Very detailed, but small."  When I opened him I noticed how fragile he is.  His arms are practically as skinny as the Balrog's fingers!  He is still very cool, and I prefer the "flesh-tone" over the dark green paint scheme.  The strangled rabbit is also surprisingly cool.  My only complaint is that he doesn't have the fish without the bite taken out of it.

Gimli is great, I like the gold/red armbands, and his hear is a dark grey with rosy cheeks....but his ax (the battle ax, not the flower one) looks very cartoony.  The flower ax looks a million times better.  The dragon helmet is nice, but not necessary.

I will be taking pictures of these figures tomorrow, and should have them posted on my page late Friday or early Saturday (Hopefully).  Now the wait goes for the Lord of the Nazgul!

September 15th, 1999:  I apologize for the lack of updates.  Here is the latest news:

Wave IV of Middle-earth Toys is planned for a February release date, and will be solicitated in the December issue of Previews.

For those who bought the Astro City Confessor Figure:  Toy Vault is offering free Confessor masks to complete the figure.  Send a SASE to:  Toy Vault Confessor Mask Offer, P.O. Box 1570, London, KY 40743, USA along with the cardboard name card found inside the packaging (The one that says "Confessor at Work with cape" or "Future Confessor")

If you have already sent away for the mask, be watching your mail boxes; Toy Vault has already begun sending the masks out and all requests that were received by today have been sent out.

The Replacement Samaritan (With the hole in his waist filled) will be sent sometime in October.

Through the Looking Glass figurines should be solicitated in the October or November issue of Previews.

Finally:  I changed the poll.  The last one was....pretty old....

August 13th, 1999:  I have returned from the San Diego International Comic-Con where Toy Vault had a booth.  I have set up another page to include the pictures and news I gathered while at the convention.  Also, the Gimli page has been updated to include loose pictures of Gimli in Battle.

Some general announcements:  Toy Vault is making a statue based upon the new Tooth and Claw comic, there is a rough prototype picture of this statue on the SD Comic-Con page.

July 30th, 1999:  Saruman has been delayed, and pushed way back as far as release.  With Saruman's delay, other, more prominent figures in the trilogy will be made such as Aragorn.

For Convention goers, Toy Vault is planning on going to the Gen Con and the San Diego Comic Con.

July 15th, 1999:  Starting with the Gimli/Gollum wave, Middle-earth toys will feature a new package design.  Check out this mock-up of Gimli in packaging (Note:  The gold ring will not be as crisp in the final version, it was digitally added to the photo on computer, but it gives you the idea.)

July 5th, 1999:  Astro City News:  The ToyFare Exclusive Masked Confessor will have glow-in-the-dark paint added to his eyes (pupils) and cross.   Secondly, to anyone who feels that the Astro City toys were a travesty, and, as one person's review said "would make Alex Ross cry if he saw the Samaritan figure TV produced," well, read this:

"The figures are exactly the way Alex, Kurt & Brent wanted them. Toy Vault itself had very little input into the figures. We chose which figures to do. They picked the articulation, did the control art, approved every step of the sculpting
of the figure, approved the paint job, picked which company to do the
blister card art and approved each part, wrote the copy on the back of the
figure," Jon Huston.

I am still updating the Links page, adding a few links everyday.

The Toys-R-Us figures seem to be selling well in most areas, my local TRU was completely sold out (According to a stockboy both boxes had been put out on the shelf) of Ugluk, and Balrog with only one Frodo and two Gandalfs left (As of last week).  This is good news, and could mean more Mass-Market produced Middle-earth Toys!

Added images on the Confessor and one image of Frodo the Hobbit to my site as well.

Nothing else to report, except that Gollum and Gimli are on schedule to arrive in August.
