The Gnolls
 
    The Gnolls may appear to be only slightly more powerful than Hobgoblins at first, but remember - they carry great-axes.  Their pet Hyenas also cause disease whenever they hit you.  You'd best know the Cure Disease prayer, or else you'll be going back and forth to the healer at the Outpost to raise your dead.
    There are also a few great treasures here.  The Silver Scimitar, for example, is an excellent weapon.  Couple it with the Scroll of Enchant Item and you've got one hell of an undead-slaying sword that will also be very useful against the Wererats - who will most likely be your next target.  The Skull of Great Fire and Spellbook of Dispel Magick are also real finds.  These more than make up for the lack of coins found with the Gnolls.
