These are the types of games you'll see on Battle.Net. MELEE: standard starting forces and resources. Allies allowed Free For All(FFA): No teams; alliances and shared vision disabled. Capture the flag: Each person controls a flag that appears after a few minutes. The Flag can only be moved once at the begining of the game. Flags can only be carried by workers (SCV/Probe/Drone) Bringing a flag to another players beacon instantly kills the flag owner. Greed: The first player to gather the specified amount of minerals/gas wins the game Slaughter: The player with the most kills when time runs out wins. Sudden Death: The loss of any base (Command Center/Nexus/Hatchery) results in instant defeat. Ladder: Team Melee: Same as Melee, but with team play (Shared units) enabled. Team Free for all: Same as FFA, but with team play (Shared units) enabled. Team Capture the Flag: Same as capture the flag, but with Team play (Shared units) enabled. Use Map Settings: Uses map's preset starting forces, resources, and enables any triggers and objectives.
| Lag; it's not just for breakfast anymore. | |||||||||||||||||
|
Lag: "Lag" is the term used on Battle.net to denote the amount of time it takes for your computer to relay your actions to the internet, and for the action to take place. While that may not sound like much, it can disrupt the flow of action for any other players in your game. Lag is denoted by the colored bars directly following your handle on the right side of your screen in the different channels on Battle.net. Red is death, yellow is better, and green is best. Red lag means that you have the slowest hookup. While this may be unavoidable if you've got a slow computer,(Pre pentium) there are ways to help if you're not technologically challenged. 1. Try logging off and back on Battle.net: This method was pointed out to me when I was showing 5 Red, and after 3 tries(about 2 Xtra minutes), I was able to reduce to 2 yellow. 2. Check your home hookup: Your modem hookup to your phone jack is important. (Sorry KMart shoppers, no red lite specials on phone cord) Try to make it as short as possible with no twists or bends. (This is the official BLIZZARD response, so you know it must work.) Don't use splices, if you've got your phone and computer going into the same jack w/a dual jack adapter; lose it. Go all the way or nothing, none of this hand under the shirt but over the bra sh*t :} 3. Check your internet provider/browser: Some internet providers are way too busy, and some of us are too attatched to netscape 3. One simple word, UPGRADE! There now, see-that wasn't so bad. (Mama, make the bad man stop.) 4. Last but not least: Buy a new stupid computer. Come on, you bought the game & you're on the internet. If it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck,......
