DESCRIPTION
Height: 6' 3"
Weight: 205 lbs.
Eyes: steel-gray
Hair: gray
Family: Ex-Husband of Katina & father of Gowon and Albertus
Residence: Formerly Georgetown, Washington, D.C.
Occupation: Searches out evil for a fee
First Appearance: New Teen Titans #31 (Jul 1982)

BACKGROUND
Baron Winters is an enigmatic master occultist who periodically forms a team of men and women he calls his Night Force to lead his investigations. Due to a severe mistake he once made, he is unable to leave his house into the present. This limitation is a source of much speculation by other members of the mystical community and a source of great amusement to John Constantine. The house opens into different parts of the world in different eras, and Winters can only leave the house to enter the past.

Winters current occupation is an occult advisor, solving people's problems with his magical resources. His clients must seek him out and agree to his exorbitant fees to receive his aid.

ROLE-PLAYING
Baron Winters is a refined gentleman occultist. He is distant almost to the point of being cold, but he is always the perfect aristocrat.

Vain, self-serving and very manipulative, Winters adeptly uses lies, distortions, and occasionally the truth to get what he wants. Yet, despite his exploitative ways, he is essentially noble and works for the good of man for all the wrong reasons.

Play him as the haughty, arrogant power behind the scene. He does not want to take direct action but prefers to use other agents in his stead. Forcusing on the Baron's weaknesses can be almost as much fun as playing his strengths. He is prideful and arrogant, and a skillful person can manipulate him by playing to his vanity. He is intrigued by new information, and will pay greatly for it.

Height: 5"11
Weight: 172 lbs

Hair: Brown
Family: Father of Faust and Fauna (deceasd)

Occupation: Sorcerer, Professional Criminal, former Curator for the Special Literature section at the Star City Public Library.
Group Affiliation: Conclave, Secret Society of Super Villains
First Appearance: Justice League of America #10 (Volume I)
Current Status: Active

HISTORY: Little is known about the true origin of Felix Faust. The earliest records of Faust can be traced back to 5000 B.C. During this time, a powerful sorcerer appeared before the people of Kor, seeking the Flame of Life. The Flame of Life was a musical flame that cured all illnesses and solved all problems of the people of Kor. Nommo, a wizard king of the mighty African empire of Kor was the guardian of the flame and stood against Faust. Faust attempted to kill Nommo and use the Flame for his own agendas. However, Nommo was forced to call the Flame of Life into himself, absorbing its powers and using it to hurl Faust into another dimension.

Faust remained trapped in the dimension until the mid 1920's, where a madman named Dekan Drache accidently opened the portal to that dimension. Faust then proceeded to destroy Drache's soul and then entered his body. The experience greatly reduced Faust's powers but he achieved his goal, to return to Earth. Faust eventually discovered that Nommo still existed, now calling himself Dr. Mist. Faust's plans for revenge all ended with him being defeated by Dr. Mist. Faust continued his pursuit in magic arts and once again turned to crime which alerted the Justice League of America. As usual, Faust was defeated time and time again.

Eventually Faust reformed and became a curator at the Special Literature section at the Star City Public Library. (See Justice League of America #182, Volume I) While working as curator, Faust uncovered a secret journal of a warlock named Nostromus, who's intention was to wreak magical havoc on the world. Faust unwittingly became the host body for Nostromus, almost defeating the JLA, if not for the assistance of Green Arrow. Faust soon realized that reform was for the weak and continued his career as a professional criminal.

It was also discovered (See The Outsiders) that Faust was the father of two children, called Faust and Fauna. Faust discovered that his daughter was participating in a team of meta-human enforcers who were serving Kobra which led to Faust murdering his daughter. Both his children, Faust and Fauna had moderate magical abilities that they inherited from their father. However, Fauna seemed more predisposed to magically manipulating plants and wild life.

When the devil Neron walked the Earth, Faust discovered that Hell was real and that when he dies, he will be sent their for his crimes. Faust knew that there is no escaping hell so he embarked on a mission to discover immortality for himself. Consulting with the great ancients such as Nicholas Flammel and Vandal Savage, they all pointed him towards the emerald tablet. (See JLA Annual #2) The tablet was created by an Egyptian Wizard called Hermes Trismegistus but when the wizard was unearthed in the eighteenth century, the tablet went missing only two days after the tomb was opened. No living person knows where the tablet is, so Faust broke into the Smallville Museum of Marvels and performed a resurrection spell on the Trismegistus to discover the emerald tablet. Unfortunately for Faust, Trismegistus was not pleased to be resurrected and attacked Faust. Faust apparently fled from the Wizard and telepathically communicated with the Martian Manhunter for the Justice Leagues help.

Faust told the League that he had resurrected the wizard Trismegistus and that if the wizard reached the tablet first, the world would be doomed. With the tablet, Trismegistus could cast the anti-life equation on Earth, thus ending all life in the universe. Because of the resurrection of Trismegistus, the barrier between life and death was weakening and metahumans were like beacons to the ghosts of fallen comrades. Faust knew that the tablet was split into three components by the Freemason archaeologists who discovered the tomb of Trismegistus. The Freemasons hid the components of the tablet in remote places around the world to prevent it from falling into the wrong hands. The Justice League soon recovered the components and under instructions from Faust, they formed the tablet into one.

Unknowingly to the JLA, Faust was actually possessed by the wizard Trismegistus and he launched an attack on the JLA. Trismegistus who was not pleased at his rebirth wanted to end all life in the universe because he believed that death was a better place. Trismegistus defeated the JLA but the ghosts of their fallen comrades such as Ice, Vibe, Steel, Amazing Man and Blue Devil helped attack Trismegistus. While under seige by these ghosts, Ice sacrificed herself again by destroying the emerald tablet. The destruction of the tablet caused all the ghosts to return to their own realm of existence but also trapped Trismegistus within Faust's mind. Faust achieved immortality but at a cost, he now hears the wizard scream noiselessly inside his mind 24 hours a day.

HISTORY: Tim Hunter, a now-fourteen year old boy from London, England, came to the attention of the DC magic community in the original mini-series, BOOKS OF MAGIC. With the potential to become the greatest mage (for good or bad) the world had ever known, the Trenchcoat Brigade (John Constantine, Mr. E, Doctor Occult, and the Phantom Stranger) set out to teach Tim the ways of the DC magic world...and protect him from them as well. The quartet had various successes and failures, culminating in Tim visiting the end of time and meeting Death.

At the end of the lesson, Tim was given a choice: choose magic or don't. Tim tried to avoid the decision regarding his magical heritage, but eventually found that he could only accept it. Part of that acceptance was realizing that there was more to his past than what he had initially believed. Tim found himself spirited away to the deserted, dying realm of Faerie by Tamlin, the Falconer of the royal court of Faerie and paramour of Queen Titania. There, Tim was faced with a test of his skill...and the fact that his parents, Bill and Mary Hunter, might not actually be his parents.

When he returned to Earth, Tim again tried to avoid the magic life. But Faerie was dying and Tim was needed. In an attempt to prevent Tamlin from sacrificing himself for Tim, Tim managed to find himself in the mythical, manbeast Manticore's lair. Tim was fatally wounded and Death would have taken him had Tamlin not enacted a spell that sacrificed his life to save Tim's. Tim was returned to life and a confrontation with Titania...the first of many such confrontations. During this heated exchange, Titania revealed that she was indeed Tim's mother.

Tim returned to Earth, happy with the parents who had raised him and the job they had done despite the fact that they were not his birth parents. The demon Barbatos and an older, future version of Tim plotted in the background to destroy Tim. But Heaven had different plans for the young mage, sending various spiritual protectors his way.

Bill Hunter, still depressed from the death of Mary Hunter, was attacked by the last remnants of the Cult of the Cold Flame, a group of villainous magic wielders who were thought destroyed by the Trenchcoat Brigade in the original Books of Magic Mini-Series. Hoping to reduce Tim's morale, a demon named Martyn burned Bill beyond recognition. Additionally, Martyn used succubus Leah to seduce Tim, hoping to draw Tim to the nasty side of magic. Tim resisted, with the help and guilty conscience of Leah, and managed to defeat Martyn. Tim's father was fully restored with the help of a mysterious plastic surgeon who would later come back to haunt the Hunter family.

Shortly after this incident, Tim once again found himself coming to the rescue of the royal court of Faerie. King Auberon had managed to have his soul stolen. In his successful attempt to save the King, it was revealed that Tim had no Faerie blood in his veins, again complicating the issue of Tim's heritage.

Tim also journeyed to America after his fourteenth birthday, running from his father who had seen Tim magic for the first time. Disappointed and frightened, Bill had scared Tim away. Hoping to convince Zatanna to become his magic tutor, Tim had several adventures, encountering Leah again in the process. Leah tried to take Tim's mind of the missing Molly, now trapped in Faerie, but failed.

Tim's heavenly guardians and the hordes of hell continued to maintain an interest in him, attempting to ruin his life yet again. At the wedding of Tim's father, Tim's demon doppleganger nearly ruined everything until Tim arrived on the scene. The tumltuous activity surrounding the mystery of Bill's doctor was revealed and this led to the death of Zaraquel the angel who had sworn to protect Tim.

Tim gave away his magic not long after, letting it seep out into the world. Not the brightest of choices, considering the eventual arrival of his Other. Tim's evil doppleganger, The Other, had set about the mission of reclaiming all of the pieces of Tim that had been cast off into other dimensions. Finding our Tim, the real Tim, and the real world would be the last conquest the Other would need in order to become Tim. Tim and his newfound tutor, Thomas Currie, concocted a scheme that sacrificed a time-lost version of Tim to the nefarious double. The Other, assuming he had killed the real Tim, set about his business in this world. His whereabouts are currently unknown.

This narrowly-avoided confrontation had its cost, though. Tim lost both his father and his step-mother to Thomas Currie and the Other (respectively). Cyril and Tim parted company after Tim refused to help Cyril remove his foot from being stuck in railroad tracks. Cyril managed to extract his shoe from the tracks, narrowly avoiding his death under the wheels of the train. But when all was said and done, Cyril saw that Tim hadn't made an effort to help him. Hurt beyond Tim's comprehension, Cyril took Tim's bag of magical trinkets and things and made off for parts currently unknown.

The few things left to Tim included the glamour stone that his mother, Mary, wore (it is now hinted that Mary is actually of Faerie and that she and Tamlin are Tim's parents). Tim put it on, becoming a younger duplicate of his mother. Tim's life has taken a turn of late, finding him lost in a reality storm. With a band of other wayward travelers, Tim has managed to rediscover an inner peace and strength that had been missing for so long. Now at the Inn Between Worlds, first seen in SANDMAN, Tim finds himself currently working as a barmaid with his newfound friend, Joh.

What Tim's future holds remains to be seen, but an eventual confrontation with Barbatos and the Other are inevitabilities that even the Trenchcoat Brigade cannot prevent.
