Power and abilities :
Flag was a very-well trained pilot, fighter, officer and intelligence specialist. Was it not for his Unluck and the psychological damage accumulated over the years, he might have been a truly cinematic hero.
Background/History:
Flag spent his life fighting dirty wars, and lost so many friends that he was hit hard by the survivor's syndrome. He was deeply scarred by those deaths, having lost his parents while young, his first team in sordid circumstances, his lover in tragic circumstances, and many of his
operatives. Most of the peoples he knew died a violent death, and on some level he feels that it was his fault. Despite all the pain, he's a good, competent, ressourceful leader, but not cinematically so.
Richard Roger FLag, Jr. is the son of Richard Montgommery Flag, a famed captain (later colonel) in the U.S.Army who led the Original Suicide Squad. This early Special Forces outfit was considered a huge success, and Truman authorized a new Suicide Squad after the war. Still headed by Flag, it operated as part of the OSS during the early Cold War. When his wife died in an auto accident, Flag Sr. decided that it was a good time to die and sacrificed his life to destroy an updated War Wheel.
Flag Jr. was left an orphan, and struggled to be worthy of the great legacy his father left him. He was mostly raised by his godfather, General J.E.B. Stuart, and graduated from the Air Force Academy with top honors. During his career as a test pilot, he met and became a friend of Ace Morgan, who would become one of the original Challengers of the Unknown. Flag then entered the Astronaut Training Program and met his lover, Karin Grace, a flight doctor. The couple, along two other operatives, became the new, civilian Suicide Squad at the instigation of General Stuart. The new Suicide Squad fought monsters, the mob, spies and other dangers with the help of their scientific skills and guts. However, a mission botched. Two members were killed, Grace suffered a nervous breakdown and estranged herself from Flag.
Flag then became a solo operative for the US government ; at one point, he was assigned to infiltrate the rag-tag team called the Forgotten Heroes, founded by the mysterious Immortal Man. When the Immortal Man finally died during Crisis, the Forgotten Heroes disbanded. Flag, however, was approached by Amanda Waller when she became interested in reforming a new Suicide Squad based on the use of superhuman criminals. Flag accepted and became the mission leader for the new Squad.
The Squad performed adequately, althought no single mission ever went as planned. Eventually, losses pilled up, culminating on Operation HAWK, of which Flag was the only survivor. The final blow came when Karin Grace was killed in the destruction of a secret Manhunter base during Operation MANHUNTER. Flag Jr. then took the exact same decision that his father did, and undertook a solo mission in the terrorist-funding nation of Qurac. He used a nuclear warhead and scarificed his life the end the threat of Qurac and its pet superhuman terrorists, the Jihad, once and for all. The Bronze Tiger suceeded him as mission leader for the Squad.
Description:
Flag is an average-looking, muscular man with brown hair in a thick crewcut. He often wore a yellow t-shirt and gray trouser, with a .45 strapped over his left pec.
