The Honor Guard was formed in 1954 by billionare super hero Max O'Million. They are the mightiest superhero team in Astro City based in a flying headquarters that constantly changes places.

Samaritan was born in the 35th century. His society was in the final stages of existence, because they destroyed the earth. In an attempt to change histroy, his parents sent him back in time to stop the shuttle disaster of 1986. During the journey back throught time Samaritan gained his abilities, and in effort to control his new found energy almost didn't divert the shuttle disaster. But he did succeed and changed the course of history, so mush so that his origin time period disappeared all together.
Having accomplished his mission, Samaritan became more driven to save every life he possibly can. With his new abilities and advanced technology he has dedicated his life to his cause. Using the identity of Asa Martin, a fact checker of the magazine Current; his membership in the group Honor Guard; and his wondrous zyxometer, Samaritan pursues his cause relentlessly. Often at the expense of himself.
