The Speedball Revenge Squad
Before Speedball joined the New Warriors, he was an apprehensive, ridiculously uptight young man
in the tiny town of Springdale. Following the accident that gave Speedball his powers, a bitter young
lab assistant named Clyde became jealous of the young hero and plotted to gain powers himself. He tried
a series of truly pathetic experiments to develop weapons that would give him superpowers. Not
entirely a moron, he let others test these weapons out, giving rise to a surprising number of
third- and fourth-rate "supervillains" in the quiet town of Springdale.
In time,
Speedball defeated each of these so-called menaces and left town. Returning some years later, he found
to his surprise that the lot of them had escaped. It seems that Clyde had sprung his flunkies in order
to drain the power from Niels, a cat that had the same powers as Speedball (having been in the same
lab accident). At the time, Speedball's powers were fluctuating, and even though he defeated the host
of his old foes, Clyde (aka Rebound) managed to knock him out and planned to steal his powers as well
as the cat. A hairball from Niels thwarted the entire plan, however, and the whole group wound up back
in prison.
Using These Guys in Your Campaign: I give up. I have no idea how (or why) you would use these
guys in your games. Comic relief, maybe?
Notice: This entry is unique, as not all the villains
have stats listed. I only wrote up the ones that I know enough about to depict accurately. If you know
the story behind any of the villains here who are not represented mechanically, please
email me.
