The Hellgate Cartel

Anton Hellgate was an industrialist and crimelord of remarkable ability. His particular obsession was thanatology, the study of death. His specialty in trade in the criminal underworld was the creation of scientifically revived henchmen, returned from the grave, given superhuman abilities and genetically programmed to be absolutely loyal. These pursuits also allowed Hellgate to augment his own body into a cybernetic mockery of a supernatural form. He could assume this form at will.

Hellgate came into the public eye after repeatedly attempting to abduct Ghost Rider, John Blaze and Vengeance and study their forms for use in his labs. These efforts always failed, and ultimately Hellgate abandoned his quest. Some months later, he and his minions were the target of a suicidal (and totally psychotic) attack by Michael Badalino, aka Vengeance. With the exception of Snowblind, none of the cartel are thought to have survived the disasterous explosion that ended this conflict.

Using the Hellgate Cartel in Your Campaign: Hellgate and crew are probably still around, and probably still looking for test subjects to further thier field of study. A recently killed hero might make an interesting return to life at Hellgate's hands, or he and his crew might attempt to hasten a hero's departure in order to experiment on his corpse.
