The Legion of Vengeance is a quartet of heroes given powers by the demon D'Kay to poison and betray humanity. The only purpose of the team was to destroy the hypocrites of the world. Unfortunately, because of the questionable nature of the team's power, everyone is a hypocrite in their eyes.

The team's violent escapades were halted by the heroic intervention of Ghost Rider and Iron Fist. Confronting D'Kay, the two heroes tricked the demon into retracting the Legion's powers. Evidence at the time, however, suggested that the Legion's powers were merely dormant, and that they could return over time.



Using The Legion of Vengeance in Your Campaign: The Legion can appear out of nowhere, brutally striking down innocents because of their "hypocrisy." They might also move against any hero or group of heroes who engage in any activity that is less than wholesome.

Personality: Pious, self-rightious

History: Mr. Meachem was an optometrist working with experimental lenses. One night he hit upon some particular prescription that allowed him to see people "as they truly were." The friendly neighborhood policeman was a bloodthirsty facist while the helpful assistant was a money-grubbing junkie. Meachem designed a suit of armor and placed his lenses within the outfit and embarked on a career of violent crime "to end hypocrisy."

Personality: Sadistic, malevolent.

History: Baccilus was a scientist probing the mysteries of bacteria. When the plutonium- powered laser they were using to activate the bacteria misfired, Baccilus was splashed with irradiated bacteria.

  Poisoning (Unique Stunt: Anyone who loses more than six points of health to Strontium 90's blasts suffers from radiation poisoning, losing four points of Strength and Agility until treated)
       


Calling: Vengeance
Personality: Self-assured, arrogant.

History: Strontium 90 was a scientist working on unlocking the secrets of bacteria. When an accident in his lab exposed him to a plutonium-powered laser, he (and his lab partner) gained superhuman abilities and joined the other members of the Legion of Vengeance.

Calling: Vengeance
Personality: Intolerant, accusatory.

History: Vesper was active in her church's choir when a vision came to her through the flame of a candle. She saw the true hypocrisy of the church and that it was her mission as Vesper, the Goddess of Candlelight, to punish all hypocrites.

D'Kay

D'Kay is the demon who secretly bestowed powers to each member of the Legion of Vengeance. It was he who enchanted the lenses of the Mind's Eye. It was also his machinations that resulted in the lab accident that gave Baccilus and Strontium 90 their powers. Finally, he caused Vesper to experience her hallucination and gave her her powers. D'kay revealed to Ghost Rider and Iron Fist that Mind's Eye represented the betrayal of the mind, Baccilus the betrayal of the body, Strontium 90 the betrayal of the Earth, and Vesper the betrayal of God.
