Between the final days of World War II and the creation of the Fantastic Four heralding in the dawn of the Heroic Age, Earth was bereft of heroes. No one stood against the devious forces that threatened our very existance. Or did they? Cloaked in secret, these brave souls defended the Earth against all foes, domestic and extraterrestrial. Their valiant efforts culminated in the most noble of sacrifices. They were...

Game Notes

The time between World War II and the appearance of the Fantastic Four (theoretically sometime in the late 1980's or early 1990's), there were considerably less superhumans in the world. This makes the time period of the Lost Generation series an excellent choice for a campaign. For one thing, you can select historical events and cultural phenomenon that you and your players actually remember as a backdrop, and your heroes can make a significant difference. There was only one commonly known superteam operating during this time period, if that gives you any idea. Why not add another? Be warned, however...the heroes and villains of this era are not the legends of WWII, nor the champions of destiny found in the modern age. For all their power, they are just men and women like anyone else, and they die in the line of battle with alarming frequency.

Axis

Strength 15D, Agility 4X, Intellect 5D, Willpower 5X, Edge 1, Hand Size 3. Skills: Brawling, Philosophy. Calling: Greed. Personality: Arrogant, convinced of his superiority.

History: Axis was an American who subscribed to the teachings of facists like Adolph Hitler. He believed that his powers and Aryan blood made him inherently superior to all "inferior beings" such as foreigners or so-called subhumans like Howler. He was hired along with four other villains to sabotage the American landing on the Moon in 1969 (he was unaware that his employers were Skrull agents). In the midst of combat, he was torn in half by a moon-maddened Howler.

Blackjack

Strength 7D, Agility 7D, Intellect 3X, Willpower 4X, Edge 1, Hand Size 3. Skills: Brawling, Acrobatics. Calling: Repentant. Personality: Self-assured, confident.

History: At some point, Blackjack was a costumed criminal. During his years on the wrong side of the law, he worked alongside Positron and the two apparently shared some sort of romantic relationship. Under unknown circumstances, Blackjack reformed and was granted amnesty for his crimes. He joined the First Line and served on several missions. It was as a member of First Line that he met his death in the line of duty, trying to rescue Mr. Justice from a prison in Haliwan. He was cut down by the brutish Scimitar while saving the time-travelling Cassandra Locke.

The Black Fox (Robert Paine)

Strength 8A, Agility 8B, Intellect 6B, Willpower 7C, Edge 3, Hand Size 4. Skills: Brawling, Climbing, Clubs, Wrestling, Acrobatics, Contingent Attack, Fast Exit, Flinging, Assessment, Espionage, Law, Leadership, Military. Equipment: Flying Fox (Material Strength 20, Flight 15), Smoke Pellets (Blinding 10), Various other gadgets as Narrator sees fit. Calling: Protector. Personality: At first dashing and carefree. Later brooding and edgy.

History: Although never truly the leader of the Lost Generation's heroes, the Black Fox was always there to lend his expertise. Robert Paine began as an American intelligence agent who infiltrated Nazi Berlin in a failed attempt to apprehend the Rumor, one of Hitler's personal advisors. After the war's conclusion, he began a swashbuckling career as a carefree crimefighter called the Black Fox. This did not last, however, as his beloved Miriam was murdered by the arch-villain Nocturne in front of his very eyes. After that, the Black Fox became more brooding and sinister, but always devoted to the cause of justice. He served proudly in the First Line, originally under the command of the Yankee Clipper and then Effigy. Increasingly disillusioned with the First Line's ties to the government, the Black Fox first went solo, then retired altogether to teach history and law at the collegiate level. He came out of retirement to help thwart the Skrull invasion in the late 1980's. There, he and many other brave souls gave their lives in the name of freedom. Note: the statistics above represent the Black Fox during the peak of his career.

Captain Hip (Fred MacRae, aka the Hipster)

Strength 8D, Agility 10D, Intellect 4X, Willpower 4X, Edge 1, Hand Size 3. Skills: Brawling, Acrobatics. Powers: Body Armor +3, Leaping 4. Calling: Idealist. Personality: Very much anti-establishment. Embraces the rights of the individual.

History: Fred MacRae may have recieved his superhuman abilities as a result of a government experiment utilizing drugs to augement human abilities. Whatever the case, Fred was the perfect 60's activist. Free love, peace, down with the government...all that stuff. He married his longtime love Autumn, also a participant in the experiment, and the two embarked on a crime-fighting career as Cap'n Hip and Sunshine. Despite their frequent clashes with representatives of the establishment the duo joined the First Line in their quest to locate and take out the Rumor. Complications during this mission led to the revelation that Sunshine was pregnant, and the two retired from active duty as superheroes. They raised their daughter Truth to follow the same ideals they believed in, but she rebelled and eventually became the superhuman nuisance known as Gadfly. As Captain Hip, MacRae possessed increased (but not superhuman) strength, endurance, and agility.

Cassandra Locke

Strength 3X, Agility 5X, Intellect 9B, Willpower 6D, Edge 1, Hand Size 3. Skills: Equipment: Alpha Belt 11 (Ability Boost [Strength], Force Field, Time Travel). Calling: Explorer. Personality: Insatiably curious, headstrong, open-minded.

History: A historian from the 22nd century, Cassandra Locke took it upon herself to personally investigate the so-called "lost years" in the history of Earth's superhumans, at the same time looking for evidence of the Skrull race's hostility and infiltration of human society. She began her trek with a stop in the late 1980's, where she witnessed a veritable army of superhumans die stopping an invasion by the Skrull race. She began jumping backwards, making brief stops along the way. Each time she attempted to prevent the future she had witnessed, but scientists at home in the 22nd century were broadcasting temporal waves to make everyone that encountered Cassandra forget her the second she re-entered the timestream. This prevented divergent realities from forming. After a number of jumps, Dr. Locke was present at the explosion of one of the Yellow Claw's bases in the early 1960's. Although she managed to jump out of the way, the explosion burned her badly. Appearing in 1955, she met Patrick Carney, the man who would become the Yankee Clipper. She told him of his destiny to lead a new generation of heroes against the Skrulls and begged him to see that the historical record she had made was placed aboard the Apollo 9 moon mission, where it could be retrieved by her allies in the future. Carney promised that he would, and Locke bestowed upon him her belt, which would give him the edge he needed to become the Yankee Clipper. Locke finally succumbed to her wounds, dying in a hospital centuries away from her family and friends. Her sacrifice was not in vain, however, as they did recover the records the Clipper left on Apollo 9 and used them to reveal the Skrulls' duplicity. Editor's Note: The belt worn by Dr. Locke was recovered from an archeological dig. Presumably, this will be where the Clipper finally loses it at some point in the future, making the belt a time paradox and leaving the door open for future exploration of this mysterious artifact.

Chimera (Commander Zuhn, aka Mr. Winget)

Strength 4X, Agility 5D, Intellect 6C, Willpower 5D, Edge 1, Hand Size 3. Skills: Martial Arts, Computers, Electronics, Military. Powers: Shapeshifting 8. Calling: Soldier/Greed. Personality: Loyal to the Skrull Empire and himself.

History: Commander Zuhn of the 21st Observation Corps was in command of a small, two-man recon craft observing Earth. His pilot, Lt. Velmax, got into a dogfight with an American jet and the ship crashed in Roswell, New Mexico in 1947. Zuhn was shot and wounded by an American on the scene, and was placed in a medical stasis pod for safe-keeping by Velmax. Years later, Zuhn emerged from the pod in a military storehouse. He burned the facility down to cover his escape. Using his superior knowledge of electronics to amass a personal fortune as Mr. Winget, head of Winget Co., Zuhn would occasionally take out competitors in his villainous identity of Chimera. In Texas in 1963, Chimera hired Howler to assist him in raiding a Stark Corporation facility to steal a new guidance system. The First Line was on the scene, however, and Chimera killed Liberty Girl before being struck a mortal blow by Effigy. In shock, Zuhn reverted to his true form and learned that Effigy was in fact Lt. Velmax. Zuhn died asking Velmax why he had played the hero all these years.

Dr. Mime

Dr. Mime appeared in exactly one panel of the Marvel: the Lost Generation series. He was identified by name, but never spoke and never took any action. While sound-based powers seem logical based on his name, it is impossible to speculate on his abilities.

Effigy (Lt. Velmax, aka Jake Scott)

Strength 5X, Agility 6C, Intellect 6D, Willpower 5C, Edge 2, Hand Size 4. Skills: Martial Arts, Navigation, Spacecraft, Military, Politics. Powers: Shapeshifting 11. Calling: Soldier, later Idealist. Personality: Loyal to the American ideals. Regrets the actions of his race.

History: Lt. Velmax of the 21st Observation Corps was a hotshot Skrull pilot who got into a flying match with an American fighter pilot and crashed his vessel in Roswell, New Mexico. His commander (the only other crew of the two-man vessel) was shot and killed at the crash site by a drunken Jake Scott. Velmax chased Scott away, but the ex-soldier crashed his vehicle and died. Velmax quickly hid the body, placed his wounded commander into a medical pod, and took the place of Jake Scott when the military arrived. An intelligent being, Velmax used the Jake Scott identity to rise in politial power over the years, eventually coming to work for the National Security Agency. Leading the Yankee Clipper and other heroes on a mission to discreetly recover Skrull techology in 1958, Velmax was wounded by a Skrull weapon. He used this incident to "awaken" shapeshifting powers. He became Effigy, shape-shifter and founding member of the First Line. Effigy met and inadvertantly killed his commanding officer in Texas in 1963, and in 1969 was forced to kill several other Skrulls who were attempting to sabotage the moon landing. After these events, Velmax covertly took the oath of citizenship and became a true American. As the leader of the First Line, he led many missions against both domestic and Skrull threats to the Earth. He was the organizer of the vast array of superhumans who destroyed the Skurll invasion fleet in the late 1980's. Velmax died in the battle, an American to the very end.

Firefall

Strength 4X, Agility 7D, Intellect 4X, Willpower 4X, Edge 1, Hand Size 3. Skills: Aerial Combat. Powers: Fire Control 9 (Flight). Calling: Thrill-seeker. Personality: Light-hearted and carefree.

History: Firefall joined the First Line sometime prior to thier lunar mission in 1969 and served with them until their ultimate sacrifice aboard the Skrull invasion fleet. She played a key role in many battles, as her powers of flight and flame blasts could incapacitate or at least keep at bay a wide variety of villains. Firefall may have been a mutant, as her skin was a pale white color and her hair seemed to flicker and burn like the flames she projected.

Flatiron (Russell, last name unrevealed)

Strength 5D(13D), Agility 3X, Intellect 5B, Willpower 4X, Edge 1, Hand Size 3. Skills: Brawling, Electronics, Mechanics, Weapons Systems. Equipment: Flatiron Powered Armor 13 (Ability Boost, Body Armor, Commlink, Rocket Skates (Lightning Speed 3)). Calling: Adventurer. Personality: Down to earth, a regular working class joe.

History: Little has been revealed about Flatiron's history. He was a middle-class working man living in Detroit with his family (a wife and three children). He was devoted to the ideals of democracy and desperately wanted a better world for his kids. Despite his slow speech and seemingly casual attitude about intellectual pursuits, Flatiron was a brillian inventor who designed and constructed his own suit of powered armor, a considerable feat. He aided the First Line on their mission to Halwan and died alongside his fellow heroes in the climactic battle with the Skrulls in the late 1980's.

"Frank"

Strength 19D, Agility 3X, Intellect 3X, Willpower 3X, Edge 1, Hand Size 3. Skills: Brawling. Powers: Immunity to Disease. Calling: Vestige of Humanity. Personality: Simple-minded and somewhat childlike. Eager to aide his friends.

History: The behemoth known as "Frank" who assisted the First Line during their battle with the Rumor appears to be the legendary Frankenstein's Monster. The circumstances surrounding his tenure with the First Line is unknown, as is the reason for his departure. During the First Line's brief encounter with the Norse thunder god Thor in the mid 1960's, Frank was shown to be capable of defeating Thor in a brawl (although Thor was addled by the goddess Venus's mind control at the time).

Gadfly (Truth MacRae)

Strength 3X, Agility 5D, Intellect 5D, Willpower 4X, Edge 1, Hand Size 3. Skills: Acrobatics, Law. Powers: Dual Ability Boost (Agility +7, Strength +5) (Unique Trait: Gadfly's skin becomes chalky white and her pupils disappear when her power manifests). Calling: Thrill-seeker. Personality: Fiercly independant and irreverant, infatuated with the Black Fox.

History: Truth MacRae was the daughter of Fred and Autumn MacRae, the former leftists superheroes known as Cap'n Hip and Sunshine. Raised on a steady diet of 1960's values, Truth came to resent her parents' constant discouragement of her interest in heroes like the Black Fox, whom she greatly admired. When her powers kicked in after puberty (possibly mutant abilities as a result of her parents' drug- induced superhuman powers), she left home and eventually adopted the guise of Gadfly, minor criminal and superhuman nuisance. She became infatuated with the Black Fox, whom she pestered as Gadfly while unknowingly learning from him as a student in his collegiate law classes as Robert Paine. She finally learned the truth when the dying Fox unmasked aboard a Skrull invasion fleet cruiser. Weeping, Truth kissed him goodbye. Seconds later both she and Fox's body were disintegrated by a Skrull blaster.

Howler (Luke Garrow)

Strength 5C(15C), Agility 3X, Intellect 3X(2X), Willpower 4X, Edge 1, Hand Size 3. Skills: Brawling, Natural Weapons. Powers: Ability Boost [Strength] 10, Claws +3, Teeth +1. (All powers formerly had the Limit: Only at night) Calling: Greed/Demolisher. Hindrances: Transformative. Personality: Gruff, no-nonsense, prone to fits of violence.

History: Through unknown means, Luke Garrow gained the power to change into a fierce, inhuman beast at nightfall. The process robbed him of his ability to speak and a substantial portion of his higher thinking, but that mattered very little to the violent, greedy Garrow, who quickly amassed several federal warrants under both of his identities. Howler's abilities changed when he was hired by a Mr. Winget (secretly Chimera) to assist in the theft of a guidance system. Winget supplied Garrow with technology that allowed him to change into Howler at will while retaining his higher thought processes. Unfortunately, Howler was captured before this could be put to much use. Escaping, Howler was eventually hired by a group of Skrulls in disguise to help sabotage the lunar landing in 1969. Being on the moon had a serious effect on Howler, and he quickly lost control of himself. In combat, he killed Axis, who had previously mocked and belittled him. Howler, in turn, was cut down by the Scythe and died on the surface of the moon.

Katushya (Anya, last name unrevealed)

Strength 5D, Agility 6D, Intellect 5X, Willpower 5D, Edge 1, Hand Size 3. Skills: Brawling, Aerial Combat, Military. Powers: Flight 8. Equipment: Body Armor +2. Calling: Adventurer. Personality: Open and care-free. Sensual.

History: Originally a member of the Soviet Space Program, an accident of unknown nature resulted in tranforming a potential cosmonaut into Katushya, a member of the Soviet superhuman force known as the Red Brigade. After clashing with the First Line on at least one occasion, Katushya managed to make contact with the Black Fox and gained his aid in helping her defect to the United States. There, she served with the First Lion on a few missions, including at least one against the archfiend Nocturne. Katushya's ultimate fate is unknown.

Liberty Girl (Beverly, last name unrevealed)

Strength 5D, Agility 6D, Intellect 4X, Willpower 4X, Edge 1, Hand Size 3. Skills: Brawling, Acrobatics. Calling: Adventurer. Hindrance: Kid. Personality: Bubbly and happy-go-lucky.

History: Liberty Girl was a member of the First Line during the late 1950's and early 1960's despite her young age. She had a romance of sorts with Kid Justice (who would later become Mr. Justice). Unfortunately, Liberty Girl never matured into the heroine she could have been. She was cut down by Chimera in action with the First Line in Texas in 1963. Nightengale was unable to save her, and the Yankee Clipper also disappeared in the same battle. Chimera was subsequently killed in retaliation by Effigy.

Mako

Strength 13C, Agility 5D, Intellect 4X, Willpower 4X, Edge 1, Hand Size 3. Skills: Brawling, Natural Weapons; Underwater Combat. Powers: Body Armor +4, Claws +3, Lightning Speed 5 (Swimming only), Resistance to Cold and Pressure +7, Teeth +3, Waterbreathing 5. Calling: Demolisher. Personality: Murderous, bloodthirsty.

History: Mako is a genetically altered Atlantean clone created by the infamous Atlantean scientist Vyrra. She was created for Prince Byrrah and Warlord Krang, ostensibly to defend Atlantis. More than likely, these two wished to use her should the amnesiac Namor ever find his way back to Atlantis to reclaim his throne. Mako's utter and total lack of respect for life combined with her considerable superhuman abilities made her a deadly combatant. She is known to have clashed with Templar on at least one occasion. Nonetheless, she chose to aid Earth's heroes in their assault on the Skrull invasion fleet in the late 1980's. Mako killed the aliens by the dozen. The Skrulls were finally forced to lure Mako into combat with agents equipped with space-worthy armor and then blow the airlock. The vaccuum of space finally claimed her life. Unless, of course, her remarkable ability to resist the temperatures and pressures of the deep ocean may have saved her?

Major Mercury (Makarri, various aliases)

Strength 13X, Agility 14A, Intellect 8C, Willpower 7D, Edge 2, Hand Size 4. Skills: Acrobatics, Gadgetry, Piloting; Energy Control, Weapons Systems; Tracking. Powers:Energy Blast 10, Flight 10, Immortality, Invulnerability (to Cold, Disease, Heat, Poison, and Radiation), Lightning Speed 22 (Invisibility, Mach Control, Passengers, Run Up Walls, Spinning Drill, Waterwalking, Whirlwind), Telekinesis 3, Telepathy 3 (Telepathic Disguise), Teleportation 4, Transmutation 3. Calling: Guardian (Olympia). Personality: Curious about all things, enjoys adventure.

History: Major Mercury was actually just another alias used by the Eternal known as Makkari. After his tenure with the group known as the Monster Hunters in the 1950's, Makkari was talked into adopting another superhuman guise and joining the First Line by fellow Eternal Pixie. He enjoyed his time with them, but eventually left the team to pursue other interests. More information about Makkari is available in the Eternals of Earth Roster Book.

Morph

Strength 7X, Agility 4X, Intellect 4X, Willpower 4X, Edge 1, Hand Size 3. Skills: None. Powers: Shapeshifting 10 (Limit: basic shapes only (wheels, tubes, etc.))(Stunts: Size Alteration) Calling: Adventurer. Personality: Even-tempered, calm. Effective in combat.

History: Very little is known about the hero called Morph. He apparently posseses shape-shifting abilities, but in a limited form in that he can only change into large, basic shapes. He served alongside the First Line during their operation from the Carmody Institute when the Deviant warlord Kro attacked in search of the Eternal known as Pixie. Morph died in combat with Skrull warriors aboard the Skrull invasion fleet.

Mr. Justice (Timothy Carney)

Strength 7C, Agility 8C, Intellect 5X, Willpower 9D, Edge 2, Hand Size 4. Skills: Brawling, Climbing; Marksmanship, Piloting; Leadership. Equipment: Body Armor +2, Cable Gun (Webslinging) 6, Motorcycle (Firing Weapons (Missles) +5, Lightning Speed 5). Calling: Adventurer. Personality: Originally hot-headed, but "Mr. J" matures into a confident, charismatic leader.

History: Mr. Justice began his heroic career as Kid Justice, the sidekick to the legendary Yankee Clipper. Unknown to most, the Clipper was actually the Kid's older brother. Kid Justice was eventually allowed to join the First Line alongside his mentor, where he began an on/off relationship with Liberty Girl. The Kid's world was shattered in 1963, when a mission in Texas resulted in Liberty Girl's death and the disappearance of the Clipper. The Kid recovered and eventually changed his name to Mr. Justice. He tried to carry on his brother's legacy of heroism, and was successful in virtually every way. He was captured by the forces of the hostile Haliwan government during the 1970's while on an assignment for the U.S. government. He endured horrible torture without betraying a single word, escaped on his own, and convinced the Princess's sister to defect with him. He continued to lead the First Line on many successful missions, all the while taking on solo assignments for the United States government. Mr. Justice was shocked to find his brother alive after 20 years when the Yankee Clipper appeared from a time jump in 1985. Justice begged his brother to return to action, but the Clipper wasn't ready yet. Mr. Justice continued his battles with the forces of evil while his brother tried to recuperate from the trauma of time travel. Justice was finally struck down by the Skrulls while leading Earth's superhumans against the invasion fleet in the late 1980's.

Nightingale

Strength 3X, Agility 5X, Intellect 5X, Willpower 8X, Edge 1, Hand Size 3. Skills: None. Powers: Empathy 12, Precognition 8, Regeneration (Limit: Others only, Masochistic. Stunt: Healing) 18. Calling: Protector. Personality: Cryptic, prophetic. Caring and warm to innocents and her allies.

History: Nightingale's origin is shrouded in mystery. She met the Yankee Clipper while the latter was on a mission in the Caribbean, but the exact circumstances surrounding their meeting is unknown. A short month later, the Clipper brought Nightengale to New York to cure the ailment his friend Jake Scott (aka Effigy) was suffering. She saved the man's life and ended up joining Clipper's newly founded team, the First Line. Liberty Girl gave Nightingale her name, comparing her to Florence Nightingale. Nightingale speaks of herself using as if she were multiple people (using we rather than I). It has been hinted that she possesses multiple lives or personalities and that, by healing others, these other selves sacrifice themselves to save others. When Nightingale healed Dr. Cassandra Locke during the Skrull invasion, she depleted the last of her lives and began referring to herself in the first person. She died shortly thereafter, her empathic nature unable to deal with the pain and death surrounding her.

Nocturne

Strength 13X, Agility 9X, Intellect 9A, Willpower 9X, Edge 2, Hand Size 3. Skills: Scientific Genius (Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Electronics, Medicine, Occult, Physics, Weapons Systems). Powers: Alchemy 10, Body Armor +5, Body Transformation (Gas Form) 10, Immortality, Life Drain 8 (Telepathic Control), Mind Control 8, Regeneration 12. Calling: World Domination. Hindrances: Monstrous, Susceptible (sunlight), Triggered Powerless (wooden stake). Personality: Devious, deadly, brooding. The most dangerous villain of his age.

History: A villain possessed of an incredible and deadly genius, Nocturne hid his dark secret from his enemies for many years: he was a vampire. To hide his nature, Nocturne committed numerous murders, draining the blood from his victims with a distinctive tool that left a five-point wound upon the neck. Nocturne was opposed early in his career by the swashbuckling hero Black Fox, who unfortunately drastically understimated Nocturne's abilities. The villain broke the Fox's legs and then murdered his fiance before his very eyes. This had a dramatic effect on the Black Fox, who became obsessed with Nocturne's destruction. Nocturne eventually discovered the castle of the sleeping villain Diablo somewhere in Eastern Europe. There he experimented with alchemy to remove the supernatural weaknesses his undead form suffered. He was interrupted by the Black Fox, Pixie, and Dr. Strange, but not before the process was partially completed: Nocturne no longer had to fear daylight. He fought the First Line many times over the years, each time returning from apparent certain death. Although he seemed to be killed in an explosion alongside Dr. Carmody while fighting the Skrull invasion fleet, it is possible his undead nature allowed him to survive.

Oxbow (Sam Motonabbe)

Strength 12D, Agility 5D, Intellect 4X, Willpower 5X, Edge 1, Hand Size 3. Skills: Brawling, Marksmanship. Equipment: Bow and Arrow +4. Calling: Adventurer. Personality: Strong, silent type.

History: A ostracized young man of uncertain parentage, Sam Motonabbe was recruited into the superhero business by Pixie, who needed a partner. He served alongside her for two decades as Oxbow, and participated in numerous missions with the First Line wielding a bow designed for someone with his incredible strength. Oxbow apparently died defending the Earth against a Skrull invasion in the late 1980's. Pixie is known to have survived, however, and it is possible (though unlikely) that she was able to save her longtime partner as well.

Pixie

Strength 13X, Agility 5X, Intellect 8D, Willpower 8X, Edge 1, Hand Size 3. Skills: Energy Control. Powers: Energy Blast 10, Flight 10, Immortality, Invulnerability (to Cold, Disease, Heat, Poison, and Radiation), Telekinesis 3, Telepathy 3, Transmutation 15. Calling: Thrill-seeker. Hindrances: Lightweight. Personality: Carefree, adventurous, flirtatious.

History: The adventurer known only as Pixie is a member of a superhuman offshoot of mankind known as the Eternals. As such, Pixie is all but immortal with a wide variety of superhuman abilities. For whatever reason, Pixie chooses not to use most of them (and may, in fact, have let them atrophy to the point of being unable to use them), instead relying on her power of Flight and Transumation (which she masks with "Pixie Dust" that transforms a target into stone). Pixie had a long partnership with the man known as Oxbow, whom she recruited into the superhero business when she discovered his abilities. Pixie is one of the very few surviving members of the Lost Generation, and helped the time- displaced Yankee Clipper to get his bearings after reappearing in the modern world. She has also been shown to be alive in one potential future timeline in which the efforts of the Yankee Clipper and Dr. Cassandra Locke manage to reveal the conspiracy of the Skrull race to infiltrate and overthrow Editor's note: It is the opinion of the editor that Pixie may, in fact, be the same Eternal known as Aurelle. It is also possible that Pixie shares an ancestry with the Eternal Sprite, due to their physical and psychological similarities.

Positron (Veronica, last name unrevealed)

Strength 5X, Agility 5X, Intellect 4D, Willpower 4X, Edge 1, Hand Size 3. Skills: Energy Control. Equipment: Gauntlet Blasters (Energy Blast) 13 (Stunts: Ricoceht, Wide-Angle Beam). Calling: Repentant. Personality: Originally selfish, later devoted to allies.

History: Positron was at one point a criminal for hire. She participated in the attempted terrorist attack on the American Lunar Landing in 1969 (masterminded by Skrull insurrectionists). During that battle, she confronted Blackjack, a reformed villain, and called him a turncoat. Positron was captured during that incident, and later not only reformed herself and joined the First Line, but became Blackjack's lover as well. She saw him die at the hands of Scimitar during a mission to Haliwan, but avenged him by killing the Arabic warrior. Positron died defening the Earth against a Skrull invasion fleet in the late 1980's.

Rapunzel

Strength 4X, Agility 5X, Intellect 4X, Willpower 4X, Edge 1, Hand Size 3. Skills: None. Powers: Elongation (Hair only) 5, Prehensile Hair 12 (Ensnarement). Calling: Thrill-seeker. Hindrance: Triggered Powerless (after excessive use of her power, Rapunzel needs rest and large amounts of protein before she can use her abilities again.) Personality: Upbeat and flirtatious.

History: Rapunzel became a member of the First Line following their first encounter with the Skrulls. Her powers, while bizarre, were useful not only in battle, but also in calming the frenzied rages of Yeti, who was fascinated with Rapunzel's long, beautiful hair. This was to prove dangerous, however, when an unspecified event called "the Rapunzel tragedy" resulted in a leave of absence for Rapunzel and Yeti's departure from the team. (Presumably, Yeti's rage got the better of him and he attacked Rapunzel when she tried to calm him down.) Rapunzel eventually returned to active duty, however, and presumably died alongside the First Line on board the Skrull invasion fleet.

Rebound

Rebound served with the First Line during thier conflict with Rumor and the encounter with Thor in the mid-1960's. During this time she demonstrated only the power of Flight. She also wore a bulky helmet that may have served some pupose (and was similar to Pixie's in many ways). Her fate and full superhuman capabilities are unknown.

Reflex

Strength 4X, Agility 4X, Intellect 4X, Willpower 4X, Edge 1, Hand Size 3. Skills: None. Powers: Kinetic Control 12 (Limit: Always on, Stunt only. Stunt: Energy Reflection) Calling: Adventurer. Personality: Reserved, quiet.

History: Very little is known about the adventurer called Reflex. He served alongside the First Line during their disastrous mission into Haliwan during the late 1970's, and he was present when virutally all of Earth's superhumans preemptively attacked the Skrull invasion fleet in the late 1980's. He lost his life in combat shortly before an explosion destroyed the entire Skrull fleet. Reflex had a kinetic field surrounding him at all times that repelled all physical attacks. Anything that struck this field (bullets, shrapnel, people) would be reflected in the opposite direction at exactly the same velocity.

Riot Act

Almost nothing is none about the superhuman known as Riot Act. She was seen in action alongside the First Line during the battle aboard the Skrull invasion fleet, although her profane behavior and seeminginly antagonistic relationship with Flatiron marks her as a probable villain. She was known to possess the power of Flight, but any other abilities remain a secret. She died aboard a Skrull invasion cruiser alongside Flatiron and others.

The Rumor

Strength 3X, Agility 3X, Intellect 5D, Willpower 6C, Edge 2, Hand Size 3. Skills: Espionage, Manipulation, Politics. Powers: Mind Control 16 (Limit: only works on the young). Calling: World Domination. Personality: Conniving, manipulative. Power-hungry.

History: The Rumor first came into action as a member of the Third Reich Elite during World War II, using his powers to amplify Adolph Hitler's powers of persuasion. He disappeared after narrowly avoiding capture at the hands of an American intelligence agent (later to become the Black Fox). Decades later, Rumor surfaced in the U.S. using his mind control (which only worked on the young and eternally young) to manipulate the Greek goddess Venus, who in turn helped him extend his control over a massive army of young people. Unfortunately for him, the Rumor ran afoul of the First Line, who quickly put a stop to his scheme. In the end, it was his old foe the Black Fox who disabled the Rumor's mind control abilities and took him into government custody.

Scimitar

Strength 8D, Agility 4D, Intellect 3X, Willpower 5X, Edge 1, Hand Size 3. Skills: Swords, Martial Arts. Equipment: Scimitar +4. Calling: Soldier. Personality: Proud, arrogant, loyal to the throne of Haliwan.

History: At the time of his apparent death, Scimitar was current incarnation in a long line of Scimitars. Each first-born male descendant of his family has gone by that name, including his grandfather, father, and perhaps the Scimitar who faced Luke Cage some years ago. Scimitar was in the Royal Palace of Haliwan when the First Line attacked in an attempt to rescue Mr. Justice. Coming across the disoriented time-traveller Cassandra Locke, Scimitar was about to cut her down when Blackjack came to her rescue. Unfortunately, Blackjack was no match for Scimitar, who cut him down quickly and brutally. Blackjack's lover Positron arrived on the scene, however, and incenerated Scimitar on the spot for his actions.

The Scythe

Strength 6D, Agility 5X, Intellect 4X, Willpower 5X, Edge 1, Hand Size 3. Skills: Swords (Gauntlet Blades). Equipment: Bladed Gauntlets +4. Calling: Greed/Soldier. Personality: Cool under pressure, loyal to employers.

History: The man known as the Scythe was one of the unknowing lackeys of Zuhn (aka Chimera), the Skrull commander who led an attack on a New York governmental facility in 1958 in an attempt to recover the Skrull vessel held there. Scythe was attacked by Jake Scott (aka Effigy) and was preparing to kill the NSA agent when the Yankee Clipper intervened, knocking the Scythe unconcious with a single blow. The villain returned, however, as one of five superhuman henchmen hired by Skrulls (who were posing as subversives) to sabotage the lunar landing in 1969. Perhaps the most level-headed of the group, the Scythe was shocked to see his supposed ally Howler murder another ally, Axis, in the middle of the combat. Enraged by Howler's mindless betrayal, the Scythe sliced the bestial superhuman open, killing him in the cold lunar atmosphere. Alongside the only other surviving member of his team, Positron, the Scythe was taken into custody by the First Line. Positron is known to have reformed and joined the First Line at a later date, but presumably the Scythe was imprisoned.

Squire (Ian Fitz-William Dare II)

Strength 4D, Agility 5D, Intellect 4X, Willpower 4X, Edge 1, Hand Size 3. Skills: Brawling, Markmanship. Equipment: Power Staff +2 (Energy Blast 8). Calling: Adventurer. Personality: Young and impetuous, eager to jump to conclusions or into action.

History: Son of the great hero Templar, Squire became an adventurer as soon as he was of age and appropriately trained. He and his father faced many deadly foes, such as the bloodthirsty Atlantean Mako, and joined the First Line in their battle against the Skrulls without a moment's hesitation. After his father was badly wounded during the fight, Squire aided him in trying to leave the battlefield, but the elder hero was shot dead by a lone Skrull warrior. Enraged, Squire turned his staff's blaster against the alien, who fired in return. Both died instantly from their wounds.

Sunshine (Autumn MacRae)

Strength 3X, Agility 5X, Intellect 5X, Willpower 4X, Edge 1, Hand Size 3. Skills: None. Powers: Emotion Control 14. Calling: Idealist. Personality: Easy-going, liberal in the extreme, very caring.

History: It is possible that Sunshine recieved her powers in a governmental drug experiment, but that has never been confirmed. She partnered with and eventually married an older hero, Captain Hip. The two fought crime and facism for some time before Sunshine became pregnant, at which point both heroes retired. The two focused on raising their daughter Truth, who disagreed with her parents' damning views of such heroes as the Black Fox. When Truth's powers manifested, Autumn became very worried about her daughter. It is unknown if Autumn knew that her daughter adopted the criminal guise of Gadfly, and it is likewise unknown if Captain Hip or Sunshine participated in the attack on the Skrull invasion fleet. It is possible that the two live still.

Templar (Ian Fitz-William Dare)

Strength 6C, Agility 5X, Intellect 5X, Willpower 7D, Edge 1, Hand Size 3. Skills: Brawling, Swords, Military. Equipment: Body Armor +5, Sword +5. Calling: Exemplar. Personality: Noble in both bearing and behavior. A gentleman, scholar, and warrior.

History: Templar was a steadfast member of the First Line and a prominent member of Scotland's high society. He served on many mission with the First Line alongside his countryman Vulcan, serving as the leader when the need arose. When he finally married and settled down to have a family, Templar turned his famed blade (which may or may not have been Excalibur) to Vulcan for safe-keeping. In time, Templar returned to adventuring with his son, Squire, at his side. Both perished bravely aboard the Skrull invasion fleet, fighting the alien invaders alongside Templar's old foe Mako, the Atlantean murderess.

Typhoon

Strength 5D, Agility 5X, Intellect 5D, Willpower 5X, Edge 1, Hand Size 3. Skills: Swords, Energy Control. Powers: Telekinesis 12 (particulate matter only). Calling: Greed. Personality: Calm and collected, maintains his composure at all times, will not fight a battle he cannot win, nor be manipulated into doing so.

History: A superhuman criminal of Japanese descent, Typhoon faced the First Line on several occasions before participating in a terrorist attack against the American lunar landing in 1969. He fought well, but as his team began to turn on one another he realized that his employers were letting them fight and die while remaining removed from the situation. Refusing to risk death or capture, Typhoon returned to the terrorist vessel (a Skrull ship) seconds before it lifted off the surface of the moon and detonated completely, presumably killing Typhoon in the process. Typhoon possessed the ability to telekinetically manipulate small particles like sand, dust, or even water molecules.

Vulcan

Strength 7D, Agility 4D, Intellect 5D, Willpower 4X, Edge 1, Hand Size 3. Skills: Brawling, Markmanship, Weapon Systems. Equipment: Body Armor +4, Blaster Gauntlets (Energy Blast) 12. Calling: Adventurer. Personality: Stoic, unflappable.

History: Vulcan, a hero of British or Scottish descent, served with the First Line alongside his friend and countryman Templar for several missions. Vulcan's calm and even temper was a great asset to the team during battles, and he and Templar were known to be close friends. In fact, when Templar married and retired from the life of a hero, he entrusted his blade to Vulcan until such time as he might require it again. Presumably Vulcan kept it until Templar came out of retirement alongside his son and partner Squire. Vulcan is presumed to have died aboard the Skrull invasion fleet, but this has yet to be confirmed.

Walkabout

Strength 14D, Agility 3D, Intellect 5D, Willpower 4X, Edge 1, Hand Size 3. Skills: Brawling, Aerial Combat, Computers, Electronics. Equipment: Robotic Body 14 (Ability Boost [Strength], Body Armor, Cybernetic Interface (Gestalt), Flight), Life Support 15. Calling: Guardian (Dr. Carmody). Personality: Very little. Walkabout is a robotic being with little or no personality to speak of. He is devoted to the protection and well-being of Dr. William Carmody.

History: For Walkabout's history, see the entry on Dr. William Carmody.

Dr. William Carmody (aka the Eternal Brain)

Strength 0X, Agility 0X, Intellect 8A, Willpower 6X, Edge 1, Hand Size 4. Skills: Scientific Genius (Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Computers, Electronics, Genetics, Robotics, Super-physiology). Powers: Gestalt 12, Telepathy 10 (Life Detection, Mental Probe, Psi-Screen, Team Link). Calling: Exploerer. Personality: Somewhat cold and analytical, but noble and self-sacrificing.

History: Dr. William Carmody was the most brilliant bio-geneticists of his age. He founded the Carmody Institute for study into medical projects that could save lives, starting with his Cerebral Transplant Procedure. Ironically, Carmody himself was the first recipient of this procedure when an assassin's bullet nearly killed him. Carmody's brain survived, kept alive in a nutrient bath. Using his newly awakened telepathic powers, Carmody entertained a brief adventuring career as the Eternal Brain. He soon turned his abilities toward curing his predicament, however. At first he constructed a robotic body to cart his brain around, but later began developing a new body for himself. Unfortunately, this was a long, tedious process that required years spent as a tiny, infant-sized homonuculous. In order to retain mobility, Carmody designed Walkabout, an autonomous robotic exoskeleton to cart him into action where his telepathic abilities could aid his allies in the First Line. Eventually he developed a cybernetic interface that allowed the two to share their capabilities and increase reaction time. Carmody and Walkabout were both destroyed during the First Line's attack on a Skrull invasion fleet in the late 1980's. It is possible they would have emerged unscathed but for the treachery of the arch-villain Nocturne, who inadvertantly killed both Carmody and himself, presumably destroying Walkabout in the process.

Yankee Clipper (Patrick Carney)

Strength 6D(11D), Agility 6D, Intellect 5D, Willpower 6D, Edge 2, Hand Size 4. Skills: Brawling, Acrobatics, Engineering, Leadership. Equipment: Power Belt 13 (Ability Boost [Str], Force Field, Time Travel). Calling: Idealist. Personality: Outgoing, patriotic, charismatic.

History: In 1955, Patrick Carney was an engineer working on a government project pioneering the science of cryogenics. He was shocked to discover that the government had on ice Captain American and Bucky (although not the originals). He suggested to his superiors that a new Captain America should be found. Another scientist asked if Carney wanted the job, a notion which Pat laughed off. On the drive home, though he considered the possibility of becoming a masked mystery man, toying with names like "the All American" or "the Yankee Clipper." His trip was interrupted by the explosive arrival of Dr. Cassandra Locke, a time-travelling historian. Before succumbing to her wounds, Locke told Carney about his destiny to lead a new generation of superheroes as the Yankee Clipper. With her power belt aiding him, Carney did just that. As the leader of the First Line years later, he encountered Locke again on one of her time-jumps. The proximity of the power belt in two places at once forced the Clipper on a time-jump that dropped him in the year 1985. Catching up with his brother, Mister Justice, and his old friend the Black Fox, the Clipper quickly deduced what had happened, but needed time to figure out what to do next. Remaining in seclusion for several years while experimenting with the power belt, the Clipper befriended Pixie and several other Eternals before testing the belt with a quick time jump forward several years. Unfortunately, this led to the Clipper missing the cataclysmic battle aboard the Skrull invasion fleet in the late 1980's where his brother and many of his friends died. The Yankee Clipper remains in the modern Marvel Earth, physically in his mid-20's and still possessing the power belt. He may still emerge to be a force to be reckoned with in the Marvel Universe.

Yeti

Strength 15C, Agility 4X, Intellect 4X, Willpower 3X, Edge 1, Hand Size 3. Skills: Brawling, Natural Weapons. Powers: Ability Boost (Strength) 3 (Limit: causes Frenzied Hindrance to activate). Calling: Outcast. Hindrance: Frenzied. Personality: Melancholy and morose when alone, maniacal and devestating in combat.

History: Yeti is a member of the subrace of humanity called the Inhumans. The circumstances by which he came to serve alongside the First Line are unknown, but he served with them for some time. His tendancy to become unhinged in combat was a liability that was overcome by his teammate Rapunzel, who let Yeti play with yards of her hair after cutting it off. This had a very calming effect on Yeti. Unfortunately, this did not work during one combat and Rapunzel was badly wounded by Yeti, who subsequently left the team in shame. He returned to his home in the Himalayan mountains, but was seduced by a Skrull spy. Yeti and his extraterrestrial parmour accompanied the First Line into battle against the Skrull fleet, but she was killed and Yeti went berskerk. He escaped with her body in an escape pod. He was encountered years later by the Fantastic Four during one of their trips to Attilan, and it is unknown what Yeti's current activities are.

Ulysses X. Bloodstone

Strength 12B, Agility 8C, Intellect 5D, Willpower 8B, Edge 2, Hand Size 3. Skills: Axes, Brawling, Swords, Acrobatics, Markmanship, Lore (Monsters), Animal Handling, Observation, Tracking. Powers: Body Armor +4, Enhanced Senses (Vision) 8 (Infravision), Immortality, Psi-Screen 10, Regeneration 10 (All powers derived from the mystical Bloodstone). Calling: Adventurer. Personality: Intense and secretive, devoted to the hunt above all else. Could be open and engaging with those he trusted.

History: Somewhere around 8,000 BC, a primitive hunter made a pact with a dark, inhuman sorcerer. When the hunter realized the deal included the death of his entire tribe, he tried to stop the sorcerer's evil ritual, but instead recieved a mystical gem called the Bloodstone embedded in his chest. For millenia, Bloodstone hunted the sorcerer responsible. At times he would draw near his prey, but the evil one dispatched hideous monsters to face Ulysses, who inevitably proved triumphant. During the 1950's, Bloodstone's reputation as a monster hunter prompted Makkari of the Eternals (under the guise of federal agent Mac Curry) to enlist him in a team of so-called "Monster Hunters" to stop the machinations of the Deviant warlord Kro. As a member of the team, Bloodstone stopped numerous mutates and monsters from preying upon humanity. However, his immortality was not to last. In the early 1990's, long after the disbanding of the Monster Hunters, Ulysses had the Bloodstone removed from his chest. He died instantly.

Mac Curry (aka Jake Curtiss, Adam Clayton, the Hurricane, etc.)

In the guise of NSA agent Jake Curtis, the Eternal Makkari organized the Monster Hunters to oppose the machinations of the Deviant warlord Kro. They succeeded beyond his wildest expectations, and even rescued Makkari himself from Kro's clutches. They defeated numerous subteranean beasts released upon the surface world by the Deviants, and many other monstrosities that threatened humanity over the years, but appear to have been active mostly in the 1950's and early 1960's. They eventually disbanded and Makkari went on to join the First Line in his guise as Major Mercury (see above).

He became an explorer, finding ancient ruins and investigating occult artifacts all across the globe. He faced a number of monsters in his time, so he was a natural choice for "Agent Jake Curtiss" to join the Monster Hunters. He served proudly alongside the other hunters, including an mission alongside the fledgling First Line against a monster of Skrull origin. When the team disbanded, Druid went his own way. He later served with the Avengers, becoming a somewhat villainous and controlling influence within the team for a time. He died in action on an Avengers mission.

She has aided numerous groups of heroes from the surface world over the decades, and served as a member of the Monster Hunters during their mission alongside the First Line in the late 1950's. She eventually returned to her home, however, and met her untimely demise there many years later. Namora is remembered fondly by her cousin Namor and descendant, Namorita of the New Warriors.

Strength 7C, Agility 8B, Intellect 5X, Willpower 6D, Edge 1, Hand Size 3. Skills: Brawling, Swords, Spears, Acrobatics, Fast Exit, Martial Arts, Tracking. Equipment: Hunting Knives +2, Spears +3. History: A peerless Wakandan hunter, Zawadi partook of the sacred heart-shaped herbs that grow in her native lands, bestowing upon her great strength and endurance. She happened upon the game hunter Ulysses Bloodstone while the latter was facing a Tyrannosaurus Rex in the deepest part of the African Jungle. With nothing more than a spear and knife, she attacked the beast, and the two managed to turn it away. She accompanied Bloodstone to New York to meet with "Agent Mac Curry" and joined the Monster Hunters. Although initially distrustful of her three teammates, they quickly earned her trust and friendship, and the four fought many great beasts together (later adding Namora to the team). She met her physical match during a brief struggle with the Black Fox of the First Line. Zawadi's activites after the Monster Hunters disbanded and went their separate ways are unknown. It is possible she continues to hunt to this day.
