In 1966, an American recon patrol in Cambodia stumbled upon an ancient and hidden temple deep in the heart of the jungle. This temple, the Temple of the Dragon's Breadth, had remained hidden for centuries. It had been built upon a well-spring of raw, primal energy (perhaps magical in nature) that the temple's inhabitants called the Well of All Things. The inhabitants had decided centuries ago that they would breed a superior mother race that would one day unite with the ways of the west. From this union would come children who would harness the unimaginable power of the Well. The members of the recon patrol were to be the fathers of these children.

Unfortunately, one of the temple's inhabitants, an elderly woman named Tai, had decided that she would like all that power for herself, so she plotted to sacrifice the children to the well when they were old enough, sealing the well so that she might tap into its power. Diego Cassias, one of the members of the recon patrol, usurped the power from his own child, then gathered the other children of the pact. They confronted Tai in an attempt to control the Well themselves. Members of the Circle, together with the New Warriors, managed to defeat Tai, but the Well was sealed, Cassias and Tai were apparently killed, and the surviving members of the Circle escaped in a stolen Avenger's Quinjet (except for Night Thrasher, who rejoined his Warrior teammates). They later crashed in Madripoor and attempted to take over the local drug scene from a local crimelord named (if you can believe it) Aardwolf. They succeeded, but were taken down by Night Thrasher and Silhouette.

Is that complex or what?

All members of the Folding Circle are listed below with the exception of Night Thrasher, who may be found in the Marvel Team-Up Roster from TSR, and Smiling Tiger, who has his own entry elsewhere on this page.

Using the Circle in Your Game: Most of the members of the Folding Circle's current whereabouts are unknown. The Left Hand is presumed to have died in the Dragon's Breadth, but there's no way to be sure. The other members escaped and haven't been seen since. It is extremely likely that some or all of them may be involved in gangs or drugs or both. Your heroes could easily find them running the slums of a capital city of a backwater nation somewhere.
