The members of Brute Force are the results (or perhaps victims) of extensive genetic alterations
by Arnim Zola on behalf of the Secret Empire. Presumably, the members of Brute Force were among the
thousands of disaffected citizens who joined the Secret Empire and their peculiar brand of
feudalism. Of the thousands processed by the Empire's scientists, dozens were identified as having
some potential for metahuman abilities. Of those dozens, the members of Brute Force survived (or at
least retained enough humanity to be employed as field agents.
There is evidence to suggest that Charcoal may have trained as a member of Brute Force before
defecting to the Thunderbolts. When the Secret Empire recaptured Charcoal, his teammates in the
Thunderbolts infiltrated the Empire's Cornwallis base and rescued him, defeated Brute Force and
turning them over to the authorities. They remain incarcerated to this day.
Using Brute Force in Your Campaign: Brute Force will most likely return to service in the
Secret Empire, or perhaps some other shadowy organization. They're brutes, after all, and will end
up someone's henchmen. Why not your heroes' arch nemisis?
